Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Omicron?

Is SF going to update their hybrid policy? Covid #s are rising. I have spoken to several co-workers and all of us are a little uneasy about Omicron. I hope vaccines (no offense to anyone who isn’t, I support freedom of choice) help to only get mildly ill, but still I worry because many of us don’t have much sick leave. At least if I get sick at home maybe I can still get my work done and not need to call in.

The unvaccinated are ok with dying from Covid. Let’s not waste precious resources to circumvent their wishes.

@ater let's not forget that dying isn't the only complication of COVID. Even mild and even asymptomatic cases can then experience Long Covid.

And quite frankly, that's worse than dying for me, and more likely.

"All evidence suggests Omicron is weak and not fatal."

This is simply not true at this time. We don't know the impact of the vaccinated on the Omicron numbers. In other words. This strain is being met with the highest vaccinated population to date. Comparisons need far more analysis.

Second, the impact on those with pre-exisating conditions or threatening co-morbidities is unknown.

My agent told me if I want to work from home the best way to do that is to look for another job.

@5nvj….that doesn’t make sense. They’ll FILL the building three days a week and it will be EMPTY on the others? Does nothing to stop the spread of the virus or to make efficient use of reduced work space.

There's not enough space in the HUBs (outside of bloomington) for a 3/2 split like that. And what would be the benefit of having everyone on the same schedule? That would make no sense.

That might be something a department wants, but not all of SF. Not if they want that sweet leaseback money.

A proposal getting serious discussion is everyone in office M,W,F and remote T,Tr. And part of that is requiring everyone vaccinated. The thought is they would only lose 1% of the approximately 20% that are unvaccinated-which would actually fall within current turnover numbers.Apparently there is considerable support for this direction.

All evidence suggests Omicron is weak and not fatal.

Bigger issue: Nobody appears comfortable working in the offices.

I think it’s a delicate balance on what should be open. I guess I feel if jobs can be done remotely that should be offered to everyone with no penalty.

The same with school or college let it be a choice.

But with hospital capacity rising, inflation, I just don’t have the $$$$ to take extra chances.

I can at least walk in a store get what I need without having to spend 8 hours in a crammed office with people talking all day on the phone.

@1cqi—-It only seems hypocritical because it IS hypocritical. It’s OK for a favorite restaurant to be open and endanger their employees to serve us because; well, they aren’t the company we want to demonize here.

So, how do you balance it is ok for everyone to go everywhere else-school, shopping, sporting events, church, travel but not work? Seems hypocritical.

I think there is too much of a rush to return to normal. After this variant what will be the next variant that comes about that vaccine offers little protection against it. Cases here in Bloomington are sky rocketing, ICU beds are at 100 compacity. Yet the farm continues to do this hybrid model. SMH. It's not if people it's when.

Most of us prefer to avoid $$$ for ER visits if our family members or ourselves fall ill.

It’s almost end of year and deductibles reset. So yeah, I prefer to minimize the risk…. to my pocketbook!

Also prefer to work from home to avoid losing sick time bc I can’t come in, but mild enough case to work.

Obviously I don’t want to get sick or die. Much less get anyone else sick or die.

This virus isn’t going anywhere, it’s here and mutating to be less virulent, like they do. Get vaccinated if you think it’s worth, or don’t. But let’s just be normal now.
