Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Involuntary Actions Coming to Power

Straczik all hands we were told that more layoffs likely. Confirmed by Intile at his all hands mtg that a cut is coming for engineers in Power. We’re also told that some work is moving from G’ville to Hungary, as hourly/rates to manufacture are 7 times higher in Greenville. Ominous signals. It’s going to be awful getting layed off in this environment. Good luck to all who don’t make it through this one. I’ve avoided probably 10 different layoffs in my years at GE...have a bad feeling on this one.

@AZUEc without divulging personal info, can you tell us what area you worked in? Engineering, manufacturing, etc.? I’ve not heard of any other layoffs recently in Greenville, although we are all expecting it soon. Good luck to you. You’ll be better off at a company that is competently managed.

Just got notified today in GVL via a Teams meeting with HR representative and manager. The 'Rona gave them the perfect excuse to avoid doing these in person now. I'm probably not going to be coming back except to drop off my laptop. I guess I'm on my way to funemployment until that runs out, then who knows. Kind of depressed at this point, and numb at the same time. 13 years wasted on this company.

@7xpm @7fiz – I get angry when people exaggerate, oversimplify, paint with a broad brush, and pretty much talk cr*p. And that's what I see in @5zec @7xpm and @7fiz . If I thought any one of you wanted to have a serious conversation about the Capital District or GE, I'd engage, but you don't. You just want to say Sch'dy, the Capital District, and now apparently all of NY State just s—. I say you're wrong, and I've lived here for decades. But if you really believe that, do us all a favor and just leave, if you haven't already! If you have left, I repeat, good riddance!

God knows GE has problems, as does Schenectady, the Capital District, and NYS. But seriously, if all you can do is trash all of these, you're not interested a serious conversation. You seem more interested in talking sh_!t and trolling like a kid who never grew up. Have fun with that!

@6qkc+15iAZUEc are you going to tell us why @5zec+15iAZUEc or just get angry because it's pretty much true? You sound like the Governor who's been slowly destroying the state and making it easier for GE to want to leave as well. Schenectady already did it and it didn't end well for Schenectady. I refer you to the late 80's to educate yourself. Go do a simple google search and compare apples to apples between the states. You'll see that most of what was stated is "mostly" correct. Since more educated people are leaving NY than coming in, I'd say most people know something you don't. There are people who enjoy their own filth and perhaps you're one but I'm not going to fault somebody for calling it like it is and wanting better.

@5zec, whatever you think of GE, your description of the Schenectady/Capital District area is narrow-minded and wrong. I guess you can believe what you want, but if you still live around here, please leave! If you're already gone, good riddance! >:(

Yeah let’s show GE that’s we could always do better all along but decided to slow everything so we would have to work more hours to get paid more. Let’s show that we were never trying our best to perform but rather our best to not perform at all. Let’s really show them we always had the ability to do it but decided not to because we didn’t care, we weren’t worried about losing our jobs, didn’t think Schenectady could ever get shut down, and most certainly couldn’t imagine a pandemic would come along. Yeah let’s really show GE we can really do it!!! Who’s with me?!?!?! Be careful, don’t pull a muscle in your back from trying to get out of your sleeping spot too quickly. You gotta ease into this.

The company will not layoff in Schenectady they would not dare. We have the most skilled employees on GE’s payroll T Rates must unite with the D Rates to show unity. Regardless of the pay scale and retirement differences. We must relive the legacy that our previous members sacrificed to gain for the today’s 301. Show the company that the 301 will not sleep on the job, or take 1,2,3 hour breaks. That we will work the way the company wants us to be. Let’s be the sweat shop and pour our sweat and blood into this company as one. In Unity We Must Become One Unit or We Shall Be Concord By One.

Schenectady is a dump within a dump. There are no decent places to live that aren't overpriced and overtaxed. You’ll have to drive from over an hour away just to find something decent that’s affordable but the school district will be terrible. That’ll cost your kids for life. Nobody moves here because it’s a great place to start a family. It’s a stepping stone for the higher ups in GE, if that. They do their time and then leave for a place that is much better! The locals that are here for the physical labor are mostly inbred mo–ns that will go nowhere in life. 273 is the peak of their life achievements. I’m sure the higher ups would love to have this place shut down and relocate the whole thing to another state where the cost of living is much lower and the quality of life is much higher! If you think this is the best it can get no matter where you go, I suggest you get a clue. GE hasn’t done anything for the city of Schenectady or the state of NY for a very long time and probably never will ever again. GE has been pulling out of NY little by little. It doesn’t make a difference what is made in Schenectady by GE, it is past its prime. Wake up! Most of us here will be present for the final days. Seniority doesn’t matter when the whole place closes.

@4wwa, if it is true, it's a shame, as there was already a lot of attrition since the last major reorg in early 2017.

Tech’s at R&D being offered the typical peasant package for voluntary RIF’s, usually the first step in the lay-off process. Expect to see layoffs at Schenectady and Niskayuna very soon.

This one could be much deeper than previous. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a 15-20% reduction in engineering. There is no money for NTI/NPI for the foreseeable future. Thank Jeff Immelt.
