No thanks. The last place I would want to move is an overpriced cesspool where Californians keep moving and driving up prices, unnecessarily.
@4fnq @4ehb I agree on your point about there being more options in Austin. This is true for most larger metropolitan areas.
Let's say "on average" a GF manager and their team's culture is worse than other places. I have no problem with either at GF. I was just anxious to leave last year because all of my friends left/were leaving. Samsung actually matched my counter, and it was outside of the range I provided the recruiter during the phone screen. I declined more for the unknown culture reason and other familial obligations.
Even though I said "beware" I didn't post it to scare people away. I just want to make sure people are considering everything they should. I'm all for pursuing better opportunities. If I can offer advice based on experience I will, even to complete strangers. I see others doing the same here and it seems like at least one of you have experience at other semi companies and are commenting based on that.

@4fnq+1gJa9my6 Beat me to it. There is so much there that finding something else would very easy.
Secondly GF is the worst of all. Some say Intel some say SEC. I can say without a doubt it’s GF. It’s a job but never a career at GF.
But ok let’s say for sake of argument that Samsung is worse. The brand name of Samsung alone is worth more on you resume then GF. I have seen a few posts that say GF is not respected in our industry and it’s true. You could be a director at GF but has no weight anywhere else. It means di-k. Other companies see director at GF but in their hearts it’s a glorified tech in their world. I have heard of a few places that would even consider hiring anyone whose currently at GF.
Point is no one in larger world knows GF. And those who do (in our industry) don’t respect GF. Slap a Samsung, Intel, apple on your resume and it’s worth a ton more.

Th great thing about living in Austin is there are so many companies in the area if Samsung doesn't work out, there are plenty more without moving.

beware to all... Austin has experienced significant growth over the past 2-3 years. Make sure any cost of living data you reference when you ask about or negotiate compensation accounts for this.
Also, last offer I got from Samsung (1 year ago) they only offered $10k grossed up for relocation. Maybe enough for a single person that rents, no more.
And finally, make sure you check glassdoor. See how similar it sounds to GF (culture, management)

They smell blood in water at GF and are going poach anyone is thinking of leaving (which is a lot)
I say good for them. And for all my fellow GFers if you are considering leaving go to this event. Right now is great time to find new jobs, but who knows how long it will last!
