Jobs have already been combined to the point that the few left to do the work are falling further under water and being burned out. We need more people not less!
OP, why would any of what you said be illegal?
The rumor I heard (take it for what it's worth) is that there will be no corporate wide layoffs. Instead, management will use targeted layoffs for segments of the company that aren't performing or have gone out of favor with the top brass. Jobs will be eliminated, combined or phased out. This will force people into assignments they don't want or transfers they are unwilling to accept. If you don't accept, you get fired with nothing. I don't know if this is legal or not but I'm sure they have all the angles figured out. My sense is to have a resume ready and to start looking now before it hits the fan.
No layoffs. But people can be shuffle into Accounting.
There will be layoffs to get rid of high level employees who don’t support the new acquisition.
Seems to be more work than the current staff can handle. Plus, Vicki said no layoffs and she has been pretty good about keeping her word. There are other ways to reduce staff if needed with voluntary severance plans, if it comes to that, but if prices for oil drop then anything is on the table I would think, and that is how it should be.
