Here is the deal....control what you can.
That means you cannot control if and when you will be laid off or not. You cannot control if you are going to get a package or not. BUT, you can control your destiny by preparing for Plan B and Plan C before layoffs actually occur. Review your financial situation. Figure out what you really want to do. I know some current employees want to wait for a package and I understand that, but only you can decide if the $$ and stress is worth it.
The corporate environment is too volatile and uncertain to expect loyalty. By being proactive, you will be managing a controlled situation rather than dealing with an uncontrolled situation like a layoff. It will also give you choices, something a layoff really does not do. Think of it this way, leaving the company on your terms is literally "firing the company!" This advice may be too late for many, but I know this strategy has been utilized by many of us now on the outside looking in.
If you have been reading the tea leaves for the last year or more, you would know it was time to get out and find something proactively, so you don't have to react to the nonsense, rumors and stress. Hopefully, the layoffs this time will not affect you, but
it might be helpful to up your game and be prepared for the uncertainty.
