Thread regarding Belk layoffs

opinion does anyone else think they are clearing out the wearhouse's of private lable merchandise as a strategic strategy

what i have read on here with some of the comments on only receiving private lable merchandise makes me wonder are they attempting to clear merchandise that no other company would what to buy like tjmaxx burlington ect products that are tied by name to belk would be very difficult to resell elsewhere in the event of a all out collapse of the company. when carsons was still around in it's finale year of operation they did the same thing by marking down is private label merchandise before they announced the lquidation of the company. is this a sign that belk is conducting a strategic closeout strategy or is it that belk is running out of vendors that will serve them?

@4kii, no, I’m talking about shipments canceled during lockdown. Let’s be honest and fair, at March 2020 nobody knew for how long stores will be closed. May, June? July? Will everybody get sick? Nobody knew how pandemic will develop. That’s why shipments were canceled. There were no point bringing trucks of spring merchandise if there nobody to shop or even unload, right? We are not talking about bankruptcy or default now, we are talking about very uncertain days of March 2020 and daily decisions. Now bunch of new factors in place, but that one is there too.

Don't you mean vendors had merchandise ready to deliver but had to stop because Belk wasn't paying them? Then all of a sudden vendors got paid and now we get the cr-p.

About out of season merchandise. When Belk went on lockdown it cancelled shipments. Vendors had merchandise ready to deliver, but had to stop. They kept it until Belk was ready for it, that’s how all this got shifted to wrong seasons.

New Directions is being phased out. It’s being replaced by Wonderly company wide.

Starting to see lots of older merchandise flowing in from the DC. Things that are out of season ie late fall or winter midsection is arriving now. Still getting in spring goods.

All this while the summer and swim type categories are incredibly thin.

I think we're clearing out old inventory. Hemce the back to back buy 1 get 2 free sales.

Ha, Since when did Lily Pulitzer become undesirable? Or Calvin Klein? We have...had I should say both on our 'ki-l pricing' racks. Those 'undesirable' $158 full retail pants sure as heck didn't last at the ki-l price of $11.84.

Ki_ll pricing is the bottom discount for oldest cadence of markdown inventory. The necessary move is to move the oldest, obviously indersirable, to make way for new arrivals. Tried and true method all retailers use.

what does ki-l pricing mean

“K_ll pricing” has always been a norm at Belk as well as most other retailers, although called by a different name for Belk. We just haven’t seen it as the typical cycle had been interrupted by Covid19 and tough sales since return. I view it as another “return to normal” business practice.

I heard from one of my mangers that ND was going away but it was going to be combined under the Wonderly brand. Maybe that's why now for 2 weeks in a row both brands have been 65% off weekly spotlight. I really don't understand what they are doing.

Also, what's up with the ki-l pricing? Cheap & no returns! Getting prepared to eventually do that with all the merchandise? 🤔

@1ebb, no New Directions? What is your location?
Perhaps there’s a new strategic merchandising/inventory assortment for different store levels.

I wonder the same because we were also told New Directions is not going to be sold at our store soon. Don’t know if that’s ‘common knowledge’ for you guys or if you haven’t heard that.

Probably both. Belk is not Belk anymore, not even close.
Just because the Belk name is on the building does not mean anything. It's no more than a closeout bargain outlet for the low income shopper.
