Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Hybrid

Since the cases are increasing with Delta, why can't SF be a good neighbor and pause hybrid to help stop the spread?

Your post suggested there were tax implications of unused lease space-there are not. The ultimate leased space will be adjusted to fit operating model. There will be a RTO date in near future.

@4frx The point is, would you want to be renting/leasing space to have it go unused. I'm not commenting on the catastrophe that SF has created with its business model or the concerns about the virus. I'm just saying would anyone want to pay a significant price for something that they aren't using? I wouldn't think so. If this is SF's mentality, then PH's should be upset that their premium dollars are being wasted on unused office space.

Doesn’t really apply to SF. The hubs are all leased space for multiple years. Whether occupied or not SF pays the lessor. The lease price is locked in for the term. SF has reduced space in Phoenix and Carvana has taken everything freed up and would gladly take more. Corporate structure is owned and they could not give that away.

It’s simple. Commercial real estate write off for taxes. You have corporations renting or owning lots of commercial real estate. If you have zero occupancy all kinds of negative fall out happens.

Commercial real estate values collapse, corporate taxes/write offs are nill.

I am fully for working remote. But let’s be real corporations have to figure something out or they are going to be in trouble. Fair or not that usually means employees pay the price.

Are these the same tons of people that have been going on vacation? To concerts, HS football this weekend, shopping? Going back to the office should not be a problem.

My concern is, most offices, not just SF are re-opening in September, so that means, tons of people will be headed back to the office. Some states have hospitals that are over-whelmed and over capacitated which means that if people start getting sick again in large numbers, vaccinated or not where are these people going to go if they cant go to a hospital. There are plenty of examples of people being vaccinated and still getting the virus.

WFH and Hybrid were never intended to be permanent or some sort of benefit. Stop gap measure for a once in a lifetime pandemic. . RTO is coming -with or without mandated vaccines.

They need people back in the office because it's probably costing the company a lot of money for the buildings to sit empty or below a certain capacity. That's my guess.

Not seeing many come into work in spite of the request to be in.

I think we should all be given a deadline to be vaxed and in the building. End of october sound fair?

State Farm is making us return to office for one very simple reason - they never wanted to let us work remotely in the first place. The micromanaging environment works best in office.

They tried to act like employee safety was important this past year plus, but the truth is they had no option. What were they going to do? Stop operating as a company. They made the only choice they had and patted themselves on the back for it and played the PR angle with employees.

If you know the right leaders, they will tell you behind closed doors upper leadership refers to the employee base as entitled and lazy. That’s what they really think, and that’s why they are making us come back.

Their safety protocols are insufficient. They will fail to keep the facilities safe. They will fail to tell you in a timely manner or at all when you have been exposed to someone with Covid. They will preach trust and do nothing about unvaccinated who don’t follow protocols.

Document these examples. Fill out OSHA complaints and even be prepared to litigate for a safe work environment. Despite what they say, employee safety is not and never was a top priority.

Get over it! Retail workers, restaurant workers, and people in healthcare have to show up to work in person every day, so quit being spoiled and crying about hybrid!

I’d worry less about the Hybrid model and more about imposing mandatory vax or lose your job. Unless you’re already vaxxed, and then according to Fauci, CDC, blah blah blah you got NOTHING to worry about.

I guess it's one way to reduce the workforce. Either making people quit or dying off.

Did polio, measles, smallpox, diphtheria mutate? There is a reason. Today’s children need 10-12 different vaccines to attend school. Soon one more will be added to the list. Don’t be a jerk get a vax.

Many of the new infections are with vaccinated people. Both my parents, people at my church, multiple co workers. All vaccinated, all got covid.

The truth is, viruses constantly mutate. That’s what the flu does every year. Today it’s Delta, already “lambda” is coming from South America. Next year there will be new ones. This will happen every year for ever.

So what is your answer? Live in a closet for the rest of eternity? 99.7% recover from covid. We have to learn to live with this disease in our midst.

Mandatory vaccines are on the horizon-that will protect our employees and we can return to the office safely.
