Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Sprint Network Still Has Traffic

I wonder if the leadership team realizes the Sprint Network still has traffic. Field techs were trying to learn and keep the Sprint sites up and running after the Ericsson contract ended in July. Then employee Field Techs get laid off this week!?! But don't worry the contractors all kept their jobs. There are a number of Legacy Sprint MSC's unmanned now. I honestly can't understand why these layoffs happened before the Sprint Network is shut down. I know of three MSC's that still have 25% of their cells up and carrying LTE.

Agreed. I think the layoffs have increased because the Sprint shutdown is behind schedule.

Do you happen to know if TMUS is still paying rent for all the abandoned Metro PCS cabinets still in the tower compounds? Its actually embarrassing when someone asks me why the destroyed cabinets are still there.

Bottom line - T-mob must shut down Sprints network no matter the cost. It's all about cost. Average lease for a cell site across the board is 6,500 per month. Average power bill across the board per month 1,950. Total average cost across the board per site per month 8,450 on Sprints sites. Average revenue per site per month from the airtime billing is 5,489 on Sprints sites. As anyone can see just keeping a Sprint cell site on air is COSTING the company money. Sprint's site on average across the board is RED ink to T-Mob. The faster that network can be shut down and parts transitioned to Dish the better.

18 Years at T-mob in site dev.

Thanks for the link. I will put that in the work log of my trouble tickets and tell my boss I'm not fixing legacy Sprint Samsung equipment. After all there is a press release saying this equipment is shut down.

Clueless

"They don't care. They will probably just power down the sites and let the customers go without until a Magenta tower is turned up to cover the area."

That's actually what they are doing. i have had calls where service was just gone from sprint users and trouble tickets come back and legit state they took the towers offline, and service won't be there till towers are "magentafied." Had a 9 month pregnant lady unable to dial 911 in her home cause they took two sprint towers she relied on for service. it was awful to get the ticket back saying tmobile didn't give a damn, no service till towers magentafied.

Allot Kool Aid drinkers. Believe what the Magenta cult says. The Sprint shut down is far from over. That being said I wouldn't be surprised if they just power it down. Now that the field lost 25% of their head count in most places. Unbelievable

If LTE was shut down why are field techs working on legacy Sprint Samsung cells? Why are all Sprint wireless Switches still up and running? Are they just keeping all that equipment powered up for the fun of it? Maybe someone should tell the people maintaining the equipment that its shut down.

Miss information comments in here. Legacy Sprint MSC's did shut down CDMA. But the LTE is still up and running on one third of the cell sites. Ask Magenta Field Techs that now maintain it. Both keep sites and non keep MSC's have this traffic going through them to there assigned wireline switch. These sites are not connected to Legacy Magenta. Trust me the wishes it didn't have to learn Samsung just so it can maintain sites for six more months. The Ericsson and Goodman contracts should have stayed in place until Legacy Sprint was totally shut down.

Sprint network is like red stapler person in Office Space. Bye bye, no one cares.

It’s all about the converged core. We are moving traffic off the legacy sprint network ASAP. But our maintenance windows shrink. It’s a cluster.

Sprint CDMA was shut down. Any remaining Sprint keep sites traffic are being processed by the T-Mobile LTE/5G network.
