I'm hearing this for non-traditional scopes. Any veracity to it?

@42z Every time a badge is flipped, somewhere an angel cries, just a little bit.
The Badge Flipping gets going this Fall.
Rumor is that HR is working on a phased transition to contract services, with the whole company in scope, including many eng groups.
This is the real transformation of the company. What is happening now is just prep work for what is to come. This is merely what should have been done last Fall.
The lucky ones will be Green Badge, the rest will wear a badge with their name on it, that says 'Welcome'
They will transition from semi chips, to other kinds of chips.
To paraphrase Devo, Why don't you Flip It, Flip It Good.
When somethings going wrong, you must flip it.
@15e As they say, Don't Mock The Smock.
Well, someone said it, according to a friend.
Many will soon have to choose between wearing a green badge and wearing a smock (Home Depot, Lowes, Starbucks).
The green badge will then seem like an awesome option, if you can get it.
@10n Groups of all kinds will be outsourced, not just techs.
The long term issue for techs are the humanoid robotics, although even there it isn't like all techs would be replaced.
The company currently uses contract labor for much of IT. The fabs have resisted, giving GB the simplest work, but are going to be forced to learn to work with more contract labor.
The pay is about the same, and although the benefits are less, the medical and dental are not that different.
It's just a thing. Not the end of the world.
The techs make the least amount of money, do high level PMs depending on site, are at risk of being harmed on a daily basis, take the brunt for incompetent management and engineering. If they wanted to make them GB all of the good ones should go find something better and never look back.
This is coming big time to multiple groups.
@ak oh ok. So that's how they'll do it. They'll sell off groups. I'm hearing IF design resources to be "outsourced." Maybe this is how - we couldn't just hire a random company. Unless LBT plans a TSMC contract. He did admit in ACM the rumors of him talking to TSMC to run fabs was sort of true.
Intel sold an entire group (~500 BB's) to an Indian company HCL. They are now all green badges.
The guidelines say a BB has to be gone for six months before you can come back as a GB doing a different job, or a year before you can come back doing a job that is basically the same as your previous BB role.
A long time ago you could be a temp worker wich was different than GB. My only time in the pool I did this which "Stopped the clock" on my term date giving me a little extra time to find another job internally. I dont think you can go from blue to green without some amount of time off. (6 moonths?) Intel used to use Kelly services for GB.
Right now I wish if that's true, that I lived in OR or CA they probably have protections against that. AZ is a fu-k you state so who knows
How would that work? I believe GB contractors have to be hired through an outside company. Also, at least in the US, there are laws against converting full time roles to contractors over a short timeframe.
