Consumers also don't like feeling cheated, like they got less value for their money than they expected.

As far as "cheap over quality" is concerned, I disagree. Consumers tend to buy the best goods and services they can AFFORD. They aren't being cheap for the sake of being cheap. If producers offer junk, consumers will avoid it if they can help it.
There's a reason the Toyota Corolla is the best selling car on earth.
And to "hot air" - each to his own. Rather than being offended, I'm encouraged because there's nothing I said that anyone can argue against. Saying "hot air" is just being small, so your down-vote capitulation is noted.
Despite the hot air ... I mean ... education, you missed the big bit in the poster's post.
"Sadly American consumers prefer cheap over quality, so the market provides. "
So, yes, downvote for me.

"That's the free market for you"
I love it when people who pontificate go on to say that we have a free market.
"Yet, here we are" indeed.
Here's a little education for you.
The United States has a mixed economy, which features characteristics of both capitalism and socialism. Businesses are regulated. Ideas and information are regulated. The air we breathe is regulated. You can't sell li---r without a license. You can never own private property without paying taxes.
You are not free.
There is no free market.
Down-vote this to concede that you have no argument.
No one's forcing you to buy a Chinese EV, just like no one is forcing you to buy all that other cheap-made Chinese sh-t flooding various parts of the US market at the expense of US manufacturers. Yet, here we are. Sadly American consumers prefer cheap over quality, so the market provides. That's the free market for you.
As long as Melon is in charge of Tesla, I will never buy anything Tesla related, and will actively root for its demise.
No one that works at or for an American automaker should root for Ch1nese EVs sold in America. They would wipe out jobs in Michigan.
Musk is not the villain here.
Not surprised. He only proposes what is good for “him”.
Melon and his big mouth. I mean ... THAT'S a competitive advantage right?
He should go sit and spin
Good free market capitalist asks for government regulation.
But only when it makes him money.
Otherwise regulation is bad.
