Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Unsanitary Work Conditions

I've always thought that State Farm's practice in the hubs regarding "hoteling" (desk sharing) was unsanitary. Especially during cold and flu season. It's bad enough that sick employees feel forced to come to work because of points. But not knowing if that sick person was sitting at your desk is really unsettling. Every employee should be supplied with Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer. I doubt that will happen considering how cheap State Farm has become.

@2bgo Yeah. ECS was all about the "portability of work" and how "the work can be done from anywhere". As you might imagine, we were believing they were going to allow WFH options in the future when they said these things to us. But no, they instead what they meant was everyone would be in HUBS doing the work from those few locations instead!

@3usc It's a little more complicated than hand washing...

Unfortunately, you can't rely on everyone to practice good hygiene. Not everyone washes their hands after using the restroom, or coughing and sneezing. I've seen it with my own eyes. The blame comes from cramming as many employees into buildings with close proximity in shared cubes. The blames comes from people who are afraid to take time off if they're sick because of the point system. Yeah, we get 40 hrs Life Leave, but that doesn't go too far if you're seriously ill.
And God forbid you get up too many times to wash your hands, which affects adherence. The whole system is set up for failure, one way or the other.

Hmmmmm ..... it’s human responsibility as well - if you are sick stay home. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. Throw tissue in the trash when you blow your nose. Wipes and hand sanitizer is provided. WFH options are a part of the business continuity plan.....1st step is practicing hygiene not matter where you work.....but yeah, blame the Farm that pays you for your work every 2 weeks....sick - stay home - pee - wash your damn hands!!!!

Five to seven years ago SF allowed and encouraged virtually every department to develop and deploy work from home strategy. It was a massive failure, Productivity, training, development, and coordination became non-existent. That strategy was a disaster. They aren’t slow as you suggest, they learned their lesson.

state farm is being very slow on making this call. i think if they do let people work from people will realize it can be done on a regular basis. someone's afraid to give up control somewhere.

Coronavirus —coming to a hub near you! It’s inevitable with thousands of people concentrated in one location. Once you get one known case in the building, they are going to have to shut it down. By then, thousands will likely have been exposed.

Back in the day, all Claim Specialists had laptops. That was when the job was noble and respectable. We were treated with some respect. Now it’s McDonalds, and your butt better be in the chair every second outside of break/lunch, and you better have your headset on ready to only do what WFM says it is time for you to do. The technology exists for Claims employees to work from home, they just don’t want anyone to.

this is ...not what's going on in my department. in fact, this morning FLL were going around, making sure everyone had mobilepass setup on their computers, and talking about options for people who don't have great home internet.

The “leaders” get heck of lot bigger his and salaries than us lil folk. Countdown to retirement at our expense. Calling marketing and automation amd data grundging and third party admin digital transformation is deceiving. Big bucks at the top. The good life.

In the 90s there were carriers that had all their adjusters working from home and I questioned the need for local claim offices then. We talk about being cutting edge and using technology but we are nothing more than really slow followers in the industry. And when we decide to follow other carriers lead we have to tweak it to make it "State Farm" and f— it up.

@1qvd You are so right! Keyword, reputable company. State Farm would NEVER allow their employees to work from home, no matter what the catastrophe. Oh wait, maybe with an ankle monitor and nanny cam

Many reputable companies are already having their employees work from home. Don’t expect that from this sh–house. They’ve spend the last 5 years cattle calling everyone into HUBS so they can spy on and harass us every which way imaginable, taking away any sort of flexible work from home options. They have already demonstrated that they do not care at all about you, your family, or your physical/mental health one little bit.
