Anyone else have the Christmas Eve holiday taken away? Or is it just us in the northeast?

It’s painfully clear that 3uqr is a total jerk.

I was a manager of a great team in Webster when I got laid off in 2018. We did have tenured people with a lot of vacation, but guess what? It was the TEAM who figured out coverage during vacation season in the summer and at holiday time. Team members felt ownership of our mini business and wanted to make sure our customers were supported. Needless to say, I was very proud of my crew (and yes, I slotted myself into the schedule to provide coverage also). I know this isn't possible for some jobs like technicians, but I'd encourage managers to try this approach first instead of just 9-1'ing the schedule.

@3uqr+18qDVGEN I completely agree that an employee using their meager, well-earned benefits in a manner completely in compliance with the rules outlined for said benefits is wrong. That's why I do my part to help avoid putting this poor company in a lurch by refusing to use any of my benefits. Sure Covid might k–l me but I sleep easy knowing that by not using my health insurance or taking sick leave I'm helping Xerox keep costs low. There's no need to burden Xerox with the hassle of my 401k because I can retire when I'm dead. The board of directors were thoughtful enough to severely limiting my bonus and raises because I want to make sure that they're getting their full bonus payouts for doing such a great job. Let's not forget about the humble managers like yourself. It angers me to even think that a worker might do something that requires you to do something too. Managers supporting their employees is certainly not the Xerox way.

@3uqr+18qDVGEN It was not his responsibility to make sure he had a backup, it was his managers. Place blame where it belongs.

In my department it was the Management that took off for weeks during the holiday period..

Did you ever think maybe it’s 9-1 managers like you that k–led this company? Saying “old timers just don’t care” is a pretty offensive statement. I agree people should spread their vacation throughout the year however attacking the old timers in general is way out of bounds!

@2mym+18qDVGEN You got that right. I took over as a manager for a group in oct one year and a guy who was there for 36 yrs told me he would be taking 4 wks off in December and as a manager it upset me. I’m a reasonable person but hetaught no one his job and wasn’t going to keep tabs on things (which when you are on vacay I think you shouldn’t have to). And come to find out he did it every year. I stopped that quick. That was an old xerox trope. It was time to set some ground rules. Use it throughout the year unless you specifically asked me at the beginning of the year. Have a trip of a lifetime coming up? of course I’m going to allow it but just saving it and taking it with no backup availability is leaving the company in the lurch. But I found old timers just didn’t care. Head down to retirement. Get the big package with as little effort as possible. It’s what k–led this once great company

You get 12 holidays a year. But each division sets which days are "holidays" and what is a floater. It has always been up to the locality to determine which workers can take off. The local sales office might get it off where service workers do not get it off as many clients are not closed that day. If it is a floater then you use it somewhere else. Just before year end or you lose it. The reason they made people use vacation on a quarterly basis is that too many saved it up for the last 6 weeks of the year and it's just not feasible for everyone to take all their days off at once and be able to continue to support clients. If you have not used all of your days after accounting for 12/25, then speak to your manager about where you can use any other unused holiday/floaters/personal time out of that 12 day allotment.

Wow, busy enough to need to work a partial day on xmas eve, must be so bad for you to have stability during these times. Grow up. Nice of you to point out where you work out of too, probably won't take long for your management to figure out who you are.

Now we have the 24th off except for a few delivery drivers. Shockingly they made a good decision.

It’s a xerox floating holiday this year. HR said we get it off. Then the northeast director overrode that decision less than 2 weeks before Christmas and is making us work a half day. Company hand book says if you work that day you get a day off somewhere later in the year. That isn’t happening either. Thanks xerox, way to ruin Christmas plans for us!

We've never had Christmas Eve off unless we use PTO, though one year when we had a stellar sales quarter, we were given it off because we exceeded our numbers.
