There is talk of some of us will having to do this post acquisition. How does this work? Is this something BC will guide us through or will we be on our own to figure it out? I’m guessing we’ll loose all benefits when this happens, but assuming we’d be paid contractor rates?

Product support was kept in-house at the time. There were some rumors a year later that it might be moved to HCL as well. But I don't think that happened (I'm no longer with any of the companies).
The reason PS was sold is because it's a low margin business and Hock is only interested in high margin businesses. He says so himself on the investor calls.
Product support is simply a cost of doing business, so I guess he viewed that differently.

When BC purchased CA, they immediately sold the PS business (except for US Federal) to HCL. All employee contracts were transferred to HCL.
How this works in practice depends on your country/state. In Europe, there is legislation covering this. Your salary and all your T&Cs have to remain the same. Your years of service in CA are recognized when you move to HCL. In most European countries, the employee does not get a choice. Either they move with the business to HCL or they resign (so no severance). Germany is an exception, as German employees can refuse to move and then get severance. I think the US employees didn't get a choice either.

So if i work in Professional Services in a product family remotely in Ohio as a Consultant and Broadcom want to sell my business to HCL, are you saying we would get two options? We get an offer of 6m contract at BCOM with bonus at the end and then either take severance or join HCL?

There are laws and regulations in each country which vary when it comes to transition of employment and so called 'contracts'. To do a complete wholesale switch which is what you are implying, HCL would need to purchase the 'BU' for example, they are not in the business of buying 'BU's... Labour hire they will do, however in previous BC acquisitions this has been for people in 'group 2' where they are advised they will be retained for 6 months via someone like HCL. This means those people get their severance and then go work for HCL which is contracted back to BC.
No idea how the fu-k it works in the state/country you are in; however, most places do not allow an existing FTE to be forced into a contract with an external party (HCL) by an incoming party (BC)
Stop spreading nonsense and made-up trash, if someone is uncertain, they should read the labour laws in their respective location.
Working for HCL would be a nightmare. One of worst orgs I’ve ever had the pleasure to deal with. Which BU/roles would this likely impact. This one’s been a curve ball to me so not really believing it. Sounds BS IMO.
it would not be a choice of severance or contractor, they will sell your business to a third party company, if you dont like it and do not accept the new contract and terms, then you dont sign and effectively resign, simple as that
They can't force you to work for HCL and if you refuse then they are going to lay you off and pay standard severance as agreed by VMware severance policy. Which is why you simply refuse to join HCL, no brainier except for h1b guys who unfortunately probably have no options.
What happens to 1B visa holders? Would they file a visa transfer.
Broadcom will do all it can to avoid paying severance. If they can do it legally in your country (like the US) they will. Transferred to HCL and no choice. Once you’re gone from VMWare they have no severance obligations.
Joining HCL would be the worst options of all. Taking the severance suddenly becoming a wise choice.
Not clear how severance have worked in the past if you don’t want to continue with HCL. Can anyone share some insights or past experiences ?
Let me be very clear and honest you will hate those Indian Vendors HCL , Infosys, TCH etc etc.. they are spreading like cancer everywhere. IT folks wake up and pick up your phone call your congressman and do something. If you don’t do anything there will be no jobs in IT in coming years. Peace out!
Ah ok, so HCL would be the employer and we wouldn’t be a contractor, but work for them and receive their benefits but would be sub-contracted to BC. If you don’t want to work for HCL is there the option of l taking the severance instead? I’m guessing no.
Based on how this happened with the CA merger -
you will be asked to join HCL (India) which is their preferred vendor or be laid off - so either of 2 options.
I believe if you're joining HCL then your terms of employment will not remain the same as the merger agreement only protects your salary and benefits for 12 months if you have an offer from Broadcom.
