Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Golden years

When I hear that someone has been here for more than 15 years, I can't even imagine how someone could have endured it so long. Railroad jobs in general are not for everyone, but this one at UP is absolutely intolerable. Seriously, guys, has it ever been good here? Were there any golden years, or at least tolerable times?

19 years hear and it has only gotten more stressful. But on the plus side the money had only gone up. You just got to endure the bs

@xhp Nowadays its actually better to be a garbage man. There's not too many people out there who think very highly of any RR right now.

Fritz ruined it in labor relations
Ruined UP as the CEO and
Ruined a lot of Shippers and Customers.

Garbage RR company.

It was good for a while they used to pay valid claims in the northern region. Now all you get is the basic day with OT and no valid claims paid. Used to be able to lay off every once in a while just to get a break catch up on sleep, mowing, laundry etc. And have a Beer. I remember when those of us who were hired were proud to be Railroad Men now it’s like being a garbage man with benefits and maybe a pension if you are lucky enough to have good enough genetics to survive a 30+ career without having a major medical issue before retirement. The new hires are usually quitting like 2 to 1 where I work. Obviously nobody is getting the message that Railroads are pushing their employees to far.

Yep, this place wasn't anywhere near as bad before Fritz took over. He's been with the UP since around 2000 I believe, and I'm amazed how bad it is.

I can honestly say it wasn't miserable until I started working on the road. The pay isn't enough to justify being on call and in a hotel as long as we are. It's extremely underpaid for what it is.
It's honestly inhumane.
They know people have their backs against the wall and they have zero compassion.
