Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The bean counters are coming to the midwest

Just heard that Labor and Material costs are sinking the Midwest. They sent random auditors to Several areas including Dayton, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Chicago. They are estimating waste in the 10’s of millions. They Found whole roles of copper and fiber in dumpsters, unopened boxes of materials, set top boxes, among other things all thrown in the trash. In one instance an auditor witnessed a technician cleaning out an unused truck and throwing everything in the dumpster. They now believe that technicians are incapable of managing their own inventory. There are pulling all orders for the last 3 years and will be sending asset protection to several garages. Bean counters will start taking inventory of everything.

Additionally they began pulling vehicle gps, phone and iPad gps and comparing them with job start/end times as well as closing notes and it doesn’t look good for anyone.

2020 will be the year of inventory, audits, and waste witch hunts

It is outrageous, I just saw fifteen managers in the dumpster. One had new work-boots and unused pen in pocket.

The amount of items I've seen thrown in the dumpster in my 14 years at this garage is outrageous! Recently a manager at another garage on detail ordered so much extra hardware. It took a forklift to lift the ton or two left on pallets after what could be stocked in the stockroom. I saw at least 7 pallets go into the dumpster. I really thought anything ordered in Upfront in 2019 would be scrutinized. The reels of copper/fiber cable get cut up if not used in awhile. Now we're going to have our trucks taken to a far away hub for simple auto repair. The fiber labs of 2005 are getting older and who knows what they'll replace them with. Glad I'm leaving in 3 years.

Unfortunately you cant march tech's out the door for not meeting tech expectations.....be where your supposed to be, doing what your supposed to be doing ....and your golden.

@12CSN9Bi-tlo, If the techs are that bad then the 1st and 2nd levels are not doing their jobs by enforcing tech expectations and marching their sorry butts out the door! I suppose you’ll want to blame the union for protecting the bad employees while you’re at it? Well guess what, they can’t protect and save a techs job if they don’t straighten up before the required steps of discipline involved to terminate them. It takes a little effort to do so though....but I do agree with you that bad employees are rampant here.

Meanwhile us techs have to order via some at&t online ordering tool because someone gets a kickback or justifies there job only to be forced to order a minimum quantity of 20 instead of the 2 we really needed or blindly order something i "think" is something to get it 2 months later vs pcarding it at the hardware store within minutes. And it also ends up being the entirely wrong tool.

Dr. Emmett Brown said he came up with the flux capacitor after falling in the bathroom hanging a clock!?

All my life until now that story never made sense??? Now I know he must’ve have been parachuting a upper decker in the tank!

That pioneering sob probably invented it!!

This is nothing new.. Compliance use to do cable inventory audits for years. So let me guess a new group regurgitated the concept and getting all the credit as if its some new ground breaking discovery gtfoh

No airties in my house @tlo. After I drop this company's non competitive over priced service there won't be any AT&T RGs or Set top boxes in my house either.

Haha maybe they would have spent more on the network if they didn’t pay a guy 40 an hour for things like cutting in new terminals and then paying him 40 an hour again each time a ticket is dropped because none of the binding posts were ever actually cut in. Your union wants to take credit for all you’ve done building this company, but don’t want to take any blame or accountability for its failures.

Theft and waste is rampid. Willing to bet there is an airtie in every technician and managers house, proabably a few on Craigslist too. Techs sit on jobs, hard workers and customer focused technicians are not valued by the company or the union. Mediocrity is the standard. You blame managers and execs for the decisions they make, but you make decisions every single day good, bad, and in between. You all play a part in the downfall of this company, own it.

Been watching trucks being yanked from garages before they could be emptied of tools and supplies rather than be repaired and the management response has been to empty it on your own time if you want what is on it and no new tools will be ordered as a replacement. Techs saying f it and watching them leave fully loaded. Replacement spares coming in with bins full of garbage from wherever they came from. Techs heading out in the replacement trucks the same way they were delivered.

Whatever A–holes. Morale at this place is so low now that management's threats really don't intimidate anyone anymore.

Go ahead and stick your goons on us Randall you incompetent boob. We're not impressed in the least.

I learned quick here it’s the normal way of things for 2nd line on up to blame all company woes on 1st line and below.

I highly doubt tens of millions in losses. There’s no way of proving it. Just because some pencil d—ss “observed” some things that doesn’t make it so.

Actually the news worthiness is the company neglected the network years ago and the standards. It ducted tape major issues.

Too hold the techs or the managers to a double standard while eliminating benefits is laughable.

Come at me bro.

I have been waiting for it.

Theft is real. I’ve heard of techs getting chain saws, jump starters, drills, Fluke meters, cases and cases of paper towels etc and selling them or giving them as gifts.

The newsworthiness is not that its being done now, but rather that it wasn't already being done

if this is true. they should have fired managers that put the managers in place for poor leadership skills?

So what?

That would be the greatest waste of money.

The email sent this week basically is forcing out anyone who is rule of 75 eligible by end of 2020.

Anyone who is left would have to work to 65 because the the company will no longer supplement healthcare.

Overworking whomever is left at dirt cheap wages and increasing healthfare costs?

I would rather leave with something.

Staying here for a paycheck and maybe not much else makes zero sense.

2020 is the end.

About time. So much abuse in this company but not only from field tech but from managers in the offices all the way up to c-suit. Retail stores the same thing. Time to sweep the floor
