34 yr retired 3M - was on Exec conf for over 10 yrs, led many divisions in different businesses.

Watched Severance on Apple TV...reminded me some of 3M. Trying to isolate employees, pretending to be force for good when really pretty bad ethically re. environment and people. Trying to make work "important" to get more productivity out of people. Turning into a Lying culture.

3M has become a company that pretends to be good for PR and gullible employees, but is really evil.

Actually, just double checked. 13 is 15% bonus and 14 is 17.5% in Canada.

I know people at rival companies in what would be LG13 OR 14 and their bonus is 15 percent. Plus they got 5 to 6 percent raise vs. The 2 percent 3M says we should be grateful to get. LG17 is 30 percent bonus at our competitors.

Would tend to agree that the younger generation feels 3M is a high visibility career company and has been worked into believing there is no better place for a career; which couldn’t be further from the truth.

The collective thoughts among threads are incredibly accurate. As a Senior Manager who has grown over 11 years from a JG8, the company has changed too much in long term career offering and it is no longer available. There are better opportunities with unlimited vacation, true work life balance, 20-40% bonuses, and market increases of 20% or more in base.

I have been interviewing and have multiple offers ahead of me. The few colleagues I see struggling to leave grew too fast through networking and do not have the skill base they need to earn a better wage outside of 3M. They are trapped by the internal nepotism that runs rampant in the culture. This is however a self-inflicted issue and a complete lack of realization when being caught up in the politics at 3M.

The accuracy in the brainwashed part. I’ve been here 6 years, JG12, manufacturing life the whole time, and even though 3M has the best relocation bonus I’ve seen, committing myself to this dumpster fire of a company for 2 more years for JG13 is just a horrific thought.

I know some folks who have had faster careers in St. Paul, but those are outliers. When looking externally the biggest thing I notice is how terrible our bonus is. Most companies I’ve talked to are 10% minimum, more like 15-20% of base salary target, versus the 7% for JG12 and it goes up a couple % at a time until finally reaching 20% at JG17 which is just an insanely low bonus target compared to peer companies. And not only is the 3M target % low, the payout has been absolutely horrific the past 6 years. 2021 was the only year I broke 100% without a performance boost.

And this is entirely on the compensation part, whereas the biggest issue to me is how much the culture has went to he-l in the past 4 years.

Boomers are holding on for their pensions. A significant percentage of the younger generation have been brainwashed into thinking 3M is the only place they can work.

for the final salary pension in the older crowd, the newbies are starting to have serious second thoughts, this generation don't mind making the move for less pay if they feel the job is no good

35 year employee and now retiree. There is a strong correlation between how well employees are treated and how much fluffy PR a company churns out. It's a negative correlation. The more fluff, the more beatings will continue until morale improves.

This all started with mcnerney who prided himself in never saying no to any interview with a business publication but inflicted management by fear and GEs dreaded (for the masses) forced ranking system. Mcnerney was one of those so called rock star CEOs that jim collins warned against. Mike is neither a rock star nor CEO material. He may be a nice guy outside of work, but he's left a punitive and draconian, even orwellian climate that is a boa constrictor on morale and motivation.

The best hope is an activist investor, who will promise more cost cutting but will focus on business results and not DEI fluff.

Don’t think anyone would disagree with you, the ex employees who have gone thru the their ethical practices and the ones who are left living under the constant shadow of the axe !
Their Executives are encouraged to post success stories on social media what a pleasure it is working with them !
