Sas no longer subleasing, back to the office or…

Simply entanglements for sale?

@7evy+1uOhSrzW You aren’t wrong. It is like in politics where politicians constantly claim what they are saying is common sense and is what majority of Americans want. But everyone says it. It is meaningless and only used to influence certain types of people who listen to that kind of thing.

@6hbx+1uOhSrzW I didn’t see it as a personal affront at all. I didn’t even disagree with their opinion.

I just find it ridiculous when people claim “the majority of people think the same thing I do”. You have no way of knowing that. It is your opinion. Don’t try superimposing it on everyone else.

Or maybe they're just reading the room. Instead of seeing it as a personal affront (which you did), maybe you should try seeing it for what it is (which you won't). This makes you the bad guy, not that other fella. No good boy points for you.

Here I'm setting the example by not being personally offended by the thing someone else said that I might not agree with, but which I understand is just their opinion and I let it go. You should try that. I'm not attacking you, or questioning your intelligence or integrity. You should try that too.

“I would think most here would agree”

I love when people state an opinion and then bolster their opinion by claiming the majority of people agree with them. Low iq on display whether your opinion is right or wrong.

Commitment to Viya when the market was screaming no commitment to Viya has proven to be the single biggest mistake SAS ever made and is the reason the company is dying.

Continued amputation(layoffs) won't save the patient.

"And one of his only mistakes, most would agree!"

Are you serious?!!!!
In the contrary, I would think most here would agree he made many, many mistakes.
Here's a starter...

  • pulling out of plans to go public in the early 2000s
  • thinking The Big German had sufficient business acumen to have the decision making power he was given
  • not embracing a SaaS business model
  • thinking SAS could compete with open source

...I could go on and on but it's all been said before.

Pipe down, commenters.

For many years JHG has not donated to any causes that are not educational. It's not likely he will start now.

Would it be free and very much needed PR? Of course. But not likely to happen.

“ Who are you to prevent people encouraging others, especially the wealthy ones, to donate to disaster reliefs, especially in their own states? ”

In what way is accusing someone of not donating as much as another organization encouraging anyone? couple with not having the first clue what those people have done.

If you think it is cool to tell others what to do with their money then try going straight to Dr G and tell him what the panthers donated. Or you can blather ignorantly on anonymous site about people who don’t read this anyway.

If you don’t see the futility and weirdness of that I don’t really know else to say.

Dolly Parton said she hopes her donations will inspire others to donate and assist in the massive recovery efforts.

Dolly Parton donates $1 million to Hurricane Helene relief efforts and her associated businesses Dollywood Parks & Resorts and The Dollywood Foundation also match her $1M donation. Walmart , Sam's Club, and Walmart Foundation also donate $10M.
Other companies will probably donate too. Guys, it is a good thing if SAS donates since SAS is a NC company. I have a feeling SAS may donate in some ways and when they do it will be on the news so just wait and see.

People in the Triangle are lucky the storm did not hit us hard here but it could have
easily been us if the storm veered eastward. Don't think disasters can't happen to you one day. Karma comes around. Step up to donate and stop preventing others to encourage others to donate.

@3ynu+1uOhSrzW Good for you. I’m truly happy you helped out.

But what the other person was actually saying is that you should worry about yourself and what you can do.

You get zero input what others should do. And it certainly isn’t helpful for you to compare SAS/JG/JS to the Carolina Panthers.

Especially when you don’t have the first clue what SAS/JG/JS have or haven’t done. Not everyone needs to shout it to the rooftops.

I hate it when other people use this phrase so don’t use it lightly. You were virtue signaling.

Stay in your own lane. Be a good person.

Or veer out of your lane and be horrible person. It is really your call not mine.

See how that works.

Of course I did donate. Did you do it, company man?
Here are some of the organizations you can donate to:

  • Food Banks of NC
  • Red Cross
  • Samaritan's Purse
  • North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund which is managed by United Way of North Carolina. Donations can be made at www.nc.gov/donate and are being used to provide grants to nonprofits working directly in impacted communities.
  • North Carolina Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (www.ncvoad.org/members). VOADS are vetted disaster relief nonprofit organizations that work in coordination with state and federal agencies to deliver supplies and services to North Carolinians in need.
  • Donate for western NC when you go shopping in groceries stores.

Did you make a substantial (relative to your gross income) donation yourself, or are you just directing others to do so?

The paintings and sculptures can stay. They make SAS look nice. Just don't keep making too many more paintings since there are already tens of thousands of them all over all the buildings. What SAS should stop is making and giving out those framed letters for anniversaries of 10, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, retirement, etc.. years of service. Most people don't want these to clutter the house and would prefer a gift card or cash gift instead.

SAS does not even need to sell arts off to donate to help with the devastation of western NC by Helene. The owners of the Carolina Panthers donated $3 Million so surely the richest men in NC from SAS will donate, hopefully. It's the right thing to do if one is a billionaire from NC. Hopefully soon we will hear news that SAS generously donate to western NC devastated by Helene. This is good PR and good cause for SAS, getting instant respect from the public and employees. I'd be extremely disappointed if SAS did not do anything substantial to help fellow Carolinians in western NC.

"And before you say "Offices encourage quiet time for productive use", lots of companies, many WAY more successful that SAS, disagree."

As a total introvert, I can only say, thank you Dr. Goodnight from the bottom of my heart for my office.

And, while SAS isn't the place it used to be, I can still be thankful for the good days.

We don't "need to have" offices either, except for management. Maybe SAS should have saved a lot of money on C, Q, and A and just put cubes there. Whether or not the art is or isn't great, it's better than a sterile bland environment.

And before you say "Offices encourage quiet time for productive use", lots of companies, many WAY more successful that SAS, disagree.

"Or are you expecting that it should all first be removed"
Yes.

"sold"
Yes.

"and replaced with posters or box store plastic items?"
No. Treat it the same way laid off folks are treated. No replacement.

Art is a nice to have, not a need to have. None of the artwork serves any useful purpose anymore. Art work should have been ditched long ago. People are more interested in keeping their job instead of looking at useless art relics.

Try seeing the SAS situation through a more realistic lens.

There are hundreds (if not thousands) of pieces of art spread around campus. Do you expect the housekeeping staff to know how to maintain them, or are you expecting the maintenance techs to know how to do it? Or are you expecting that it should all first be removed, sold, and replaced with posters or box store plastic items?

Or does it make more sense to keep a small staff (art department) of people who know how to handle the collection?
