Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Almost the same pay

Offering almost the same pay to newly hired employees compared to long-term employees is a humiliation for all those who have given their best to this company over the years. What will Verizon achieve with this, apart from the loss of experienced long-term employees, as well as those newbies who do not intend to stay here long?

long time employees shouldve taken advantage of advancement opportunities and tuition reimbursement. Sure the commission checks were good 10-20 years ago but did you think it would last forever and that you were irreplaceable?

Say what you will about Tami but she started at the bottom and worked her way through the ranks. she didn't stay in one position for 15 years then complain a newbie makes the same salary as her.

You forget… they don’t care if you’ve been here for a long time. They want newer people who can still get the job done to some degree, that they can attract to “high paying positions” at $20 an hour (when you factor in commission)

Layoffs will be coming as doors transform to dealer doors. The first round was last year and they did them the first quarter. The second round will come sometime this year. It’s a surprise maybe 3rd quarter I’d assume. Verizon is bleeding and bleeding bad. The talent pool is atrocious and they can’t hold employees long enough. People who were tenured went on leave because they knew that it’s just not what it used to be. Start perfecting your resume and make amends with yourself. Build up enough courage and give yourself some respect. You were once part of an elite Fortune 500 corporation. Now I can’t say they actually are even the service is not all up to par.

A retail rep is only worth so much. You can't expect to keep increasing your pay doing the exact same job for 10 years. You need to develop more skills and move on.

20 years in retail? Obviously starting wages increases every year. Starting wages recently have tremendously surpassed annual raises. How does one do the same job for 10,15,20 years without advancement? They must really like the job or very comfortable. I think the latter.

Op is right, it's a huge, eye opening slap in the face to see that any longtime employee that invested 10, 15, 20 plus years with this company got them nowhere and basically their time spent here means nothing. And the real kicker is this company is run by a blatantly corrupt CEO that not only destroyed one company was hired to destroy this one.... Not only his he going to get away with it but he will walk away with 20+ million dollars to do it! Disgusting!!

Considering the level of intelligence you have, I'm sure your "frens" will fit right in. Since Verizon enjoys screwing over their longtime, hardworking, competent employees; people like your "frens" will be the only caliber of employees they will get. At the end of the day, this will be Verizon's undoing.

Starting pay in Customer Care is $20.00 per hour. That being said, OP is right. People who have been with the company for a decade aren't making much over that. They increased the starting pay to prevent employees leaving after going through training and realizing how stressful the job is. Imagine getting a 1 to 3% yearly raise and see 9% YTD inflation destroy it. People have less purchasing power than they did a year ago even after the raise. Advise your friend if they work for Verizon they will lose more purchasing power the longer they're here since they won't make any pay changes.
