UBI? And who is going to pay for that when millions of workers are no longer working (and paying taxes) because of AI?!?!?!
UBI is a total fallacy... how about we totally abolish money and make everything free... a la Star Trek! We all only work for pleasure, to better ourselves and to contribute to society... LOL!!
AI is going to gut all sorts of white collar jobs. That seems to be why they are promoting Universal Basic Income (UBI). I have tried to see a silver lining in AI but there is none. It is going to be the end of humanity.
"None of us are committed to the company, and there is no reason for IBM to be committed to its employees."
For old-timers who are still around the company...when did Personal Business Commitments (PBC) go away? I remember when I was there that there was at least a pretense of commitment, even if it wasn't real.
Totally agree with you. Only shareholders and the IBM stock matter… It is time for IBM to show up. I am an IBMer… employees only matter if they can contribute to the bottom and top lines… the rest is futile. I will get laid off as everybody else when my time comes, it is just the way it is in a capitalist system.
None of us are committed to the company, and there is no reason for IBM to be committed to its employees.
That's going to require a lot of layoffs...
As an ex-IBMer who still has stock and thus some skin in the game, whatever is necessary to drive the stock price up I’m for…
Heard this from a colleague about 25 years ago: ”Computer programmers are the laziest people in the world…who else could make a career out of trying to get a computer to do their work for them?” 🤣
@3fly The World Economic Forum (WEF) has its yearly meetings in Davos. Attendees include corporate leaders, influential politicians and business people, along with lots of celebrity figures like actors and sports stars and people like that. It's a place where trendy (and often insane, evil and id--tic) ideas are initially formed, so it's natural that AK would be there to represent IBM. He's not the first, and he won't be the last.
"I had no idea we were connected with Davos"
....are you an id--t or just new here? The IBM CEO goes there every year and every year sends out an e-mail/blog post/whatever about it.
Perhaps AI could replace AK
Davos has become a total joke over the years. It was good at the beginning but now it is just a cesspool.
Putting in my resignation tomorrow. I had no idea we were connected with Davos. goodbye!!!
Dai Krishna your job is gone de…..

Any AI mention pushes any stock up - IBM is just riding that horse.
That AI cr-p will never program any piece of code that will go live in Production. I don’t understand what people are afraid of… especially from IBM… IBM is just always about hype. Don’t listen to anything IBM says.
Sickening that the ceo is at davos. They are clearly the enemy of humanity. Glad I left IBM.
Just like the industrial revolution, the IT revolution has resulted in massive technological and societal change, and will continue to do so. The AI revolution will be no different.
Programmers can complain, but they of all people could see what was coming.
It is hilarious seeing programmers complain about some software program (AI) taking their job.
This is after they've destroyed millions and millions of jobs with the programs they've written that resulted in workers losing their jobs.
Ha.
