Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Yay! No MIP

Worked our arses off, have to put up with more sh-t than ever due to not backfilling roles, but don’t worry we have $$$ to spend on potential share buy back……just not rewarding staff for the hard work. Can’t wait to see what an inflation busting pay increase we are going to all get…..FFS!

Annual report will be the dagger to rank and file , it will reveal what executives paid themselves despite poor performance. No dissident shareholders to stop them…$17.92 per share….. FU __ employees.

just wait for the annual report to see the hidden bonuses to the top hierarchy, in the form of stock options....

Hopefully at least this week's layoff was executed in an equitable and inclusive manner and they didn't layoff any people of color or members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

man, you poor chumps seem cool with letting the powers that be rob you blind if you get to have a convenient "woke" scapegoat in the process, huh?

You can say the work conditions are bad but we all know that well behaved toy companies rarely make history.

it's nothing to do about woke culture. Stop the distraction.
It's more like "No soup for you!" attitude from Ynot.

@3bpv+1l73Jb33 sounds about what you'd expect from a big corporation. I understand what you mean about the bonus situation, when times are tough all energy and time should be spent on making money and improving the business. Woke initiatives can be a distraction and often end up having a negative impact on the bottom line. I know it's basically a truism at this point, but "get woke, go broke" is no joke. It'll be interesting to see how woke the upcoming Barbie movie will be.

Maybe a 7 or 8. I understand Mattel isn't that far out of line with corporate America these days, constantly finding ways to improve their ESG score. Like I said, it's easy for me to look the other way when the company is doing well - don't bite the hand that feeds you. But when you hear the company wasn't profitable enough to fund the bonus pool, the following examples over the last few years deserve more scrutiny:

American Girl made a CRT-based children's book.
Headspace event including topic discussing "white privilege".
Misgendering policies added to employee handbook, including severe punishments.
LGBTQ+, women, black, and Hispanic employee segregation clubs.
Several company emails sent throughout pride month, black history month, juneteenth, etc., but nothing on the 4th of July.
Minority quotas applied to every Barbie, Little People figure, etc.

@1ybi+1l73Jb33 by "exploit" do you mean create countless good paying jobs over the course of many many decades, creating an opportunity for tens of thousands of hardworking people to lift themselves out of poverty.

Mattel needs to move on from china and find another impoverished country to exploit, or better yet, bring production to the US! Detroit has a glut of abandoned factories. Prices are just too darn high. I would never buy my kid a $24 action figure. id take him to a swap meet or flea market and get him a handful used for $5. he doesn’t care. Mattel needs to open their eyes and adapt instead of yawn making excuses. we’ve used up all the goodwill and bargaining chips with china.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with one being Ron DeSantis' new FL state Kindergarten curriculum and 10 being Stanford University no longer using the term "American", instead using the term “US Citizen” in order to avoid “insinuating that the US is the most important country in the Americas”, how woke would you Mattel is these days?

Maybe get rid of that id--t director who is too busy promoting himself to know what is going on in the business. He does nothing, unless it is a high profile project with media coverage, so he can be the face of the brand. No one likes working with him. But somehow keeps getting promoted. Save the company about $200K and a lot of headache

Not getting a bonus this year is going to make ignoring all of the woke bullsh-t that the company shoves down our throats much more difficult.

Maybe we need more diversity hires to have a better year next year.

Sorry everyone, no funds for a Juneteenth party this year. No funds for a Open at Mattel drag show. :-(

Let's keep hiring more VPs. That will give us positive cash flow. I'm sure the higher ups will get stock options or stock grants instead of MIP. Us worker bees get squat.
