Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Important strike info. Are you ready?

I will be working this weekend. This is the best choice for me. I love my job and am grateful for my team.

Here's some advice for those who are trying to make their decision:

  1. You will not get paid by att for any time you are not clocked in. CWA will not pay you a dime until AFTER 15 days of striking.

  2. You CAN continue work. You CAN cross the picket lines. If you do not want to leave your customers and managers, you DO NOT HAVE TO.

  3. The union CAN NOT fine you if you choose to work as long as you have to do is RESIGN your union membership before working. Very simple process.

  4. You can resign your membership in any state when the contract is expired.

  5. If you resign, you do not lose ANY benefits.

  6. If you are looking to ever be promoted, as I am, I would do anything possible to help my managers when they need me. They will remember.

  7. Look up how much your union leaders make. Many of them are well into the 6 figure range. This comes directly from YOUR check. They do not do this just for your benefit. Think about it.

Not hard to look up unless you are an illiterate troll:

a : a contemptible person

b (1) : a worker who refuses to join a labor union (2) : a union member who refuses to strike or returns to work before a strike has ended (3) : a worker who accepts employment or replaces a union worker during a strike (4) : one who works for less than union wages or on nonunion terms

All you f---tards using the term scab...you don't even know the origin of the term. Got a threatening call from your puppet master CWA steward on scabs and fines. You are so ridiculously stupid.

Totally not true. By LAW no one can be forced to be in a union. I withdrew a long time ago and never lost my job. This is just more CWA lies to bully their own members.

Let this retard withdraw from the union. Go look at what happened to every verizon worker who did this. When the agreement got signed they all lost their jobs because att cannot legally employ non union reps. Unless youre in a "right to work state" u lose your job the minute a contract is agreed on. I really hope this idiot does it

Don't you think the Union uses you? Trust me the Union gets paid to up the contract. There is a NO strike clause but yet they use it on the bargaining table getting members all pissed off to get them to strike. I personally DO NOT WORK for the UNION they work for member's. Union members DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE which benefits are worth striking over. I don't recall the union EVER asking me what I WANT so I am not going to sit on a picket line looking like an ungrateful fool cause someone pressured me into it. There is a definite balance between working under union contract and being treated equally to someone who sleeps on the job. It really gets my panties in a bundle how union members claim solidarity during a union strike but where is your union buddies during a walk out or disciplinary actions. Everything is soooo hush hush then you hear crap from the grape vine which 90% of the time it's completely WRONG. Union officials are paid by the company so to me they WORK forand with the company. I have found on NUMEROUS occasions they set an example by walking out reps that had 1 minor issue to show repeat offenders it can happen to you. Stop with bitterness for ANYONE NOT willing to strike, that's your business. Once everything settles you wil go back to turning your head pretending you didn't see anything to stand up for your tumpble weed union brother. GET OVER YOURSELF people didn't say they are applying at AT&T TO fight every cause. Another thing, NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD TO GIVE TO UNITED WAY OR WANTS TO. I personally dedicate myself and follow the rules which equals my days pay. When they no longer need me due to consolidation, loss of business, restructuring then i will find another job. That's life it's terrifying we do the best we can, strive for success but it doesn't make us failures or unemployable, it's just business. It s---s but so does cancer, did you think anyone sees that coming? NOPE If the union and AT&T can't come to an agreement well they will keep working on it until they do. The current contract will stay and life goes on. Are you going to threaten someone without anger and a good cause? NOPE! The union LOVES getting people in a tizzy pointing out how much Randy makes.... Did ANYONE think maybe he earned it? Sure things could be better but only if you thrive like most successful people. We are reps and techs that take a lot of sh--, kiss a--, and bend over backwards to make the company happy and keep our jobs. Unfortunately, the jobs we do can be done by ANYONE. A monkey can do it if it was trained to do so. Let ne remind you. I am a union member and EVERYTHING I HAVE learned is from the company, my desire for success, ability to learn and appreciation for both the union and AT&T. All companies have there hang ups but NO ONE is going to bully me into doing something I do not feel is warranted.

"I was raised to think for myself" yeah sure buddy it's more like "I was raised to think only about myself"

What a brave soul you are leaving the union and feeling so proud of it you walk around thinking you're some special snowflake doing the right thing meanwhile you continue to reap the benefits of those that stayed in the union from continued representation to benefiting from the contracts that are negotiated by a union for the union but your so blinded by your ego you don't realize your just a worthless scab and your one 365 days a year. Such a hard worker you, you walk around thinking your better than the men and women who actually put into the footwork to get you what you have now.

You don't cross the line to support your coworkers and peers. what pisses me off is the crybabies that cry about the union but then they won't stand up with their workers they work with every day to get a good contract to be treated well...and be the first to cry about everything. if you want to resign from union fine,if you don't want to stand by your coworkers fine, but know you're the one going to pay for your consequences for your actions and have to look yourself in the mirror for crapping on your coworkers......

All I know is one thing. I and my fellow workers have some issues with the union. No one is perfect. but our union is out there for our well being. If it wasn't for this union, your salary would be at lower wage. enjoy the time off.

I wanna put my 2 cents in as a fellow member. I think it is inpoor taste for ANYONE to call personal names because they are being suggestive. There is definitely pro's and con's for crossing a picket line. This is a personal choice and NO ONE should be persecuted for exercising what they feel is best. Solidarity means supporting your union and fellow employees so understand EVERYONE has different life situations thatmay FORCE them to continue to work and get paid. Always remember at the end of the day you have to take care of you and yoir family. While striking may have been a powerful tactic in the past but so were ultimatums. Another thing i would like to point out is being in a union shop is a BENEFIT, NOT an obligation to sacrifice everything you worked hard for and not everyone wants to stay in a union position so respect their career choices and advancements. It is not easy moving within AT&T so a promotion is a personal accomplishment. Try not to get your panties in a bundle and be told what to do and then jump. You have a mind of your own and PERSONALLY Decide if it's worth loosing everything. Example: I would NEVER STRIKE over petty crap but I sure as sh-- would over loosing our pension, stock match, health insurance. Always remember there is a price to pay for everything in life, decide if it's something you are Personally willing to adapt to or pay. NEVER assume everyones life situation is the same. Some people have handicap or sick children and desperately need the pay. Get real and honest with yourself. Thanks

You can exit the union at any time- not only when the contract has expired. ATT will continue to extract dues from your check, however, the union will send you a check (my experience is once yearly) minus the actual costs of representing its members. You dont have to pay for their political shenanigans. I left because I did see the list with compensation numbers for the local. The pay for a chief steward in my building was obscene. After many decades of service I was able to compare the level of service the members received today versus- say 15 years ago. It's hard to even call it service anymore. Dues are a toll you pay just because you are on their membership list. When you leave the union they still have the fiduciary duty to represent you. It was my experience that the level of service actually improved after I sent my resignation letter. It is my opinion that I was free to take legal action against the union straight away if poor representation caused me harm. Yes, I left. A third generation union member who wouldn't be bullied to pay for poor to non-existent service. I was raised to think for myself. Good Luck in whatever you choose for your life and don't let the little dogs barking distract you.

You you can resign from the union. If you're not in a right to work state you must still pay union dues but you are not required to be in the union. If you're in a right to work state you also can opt out of paying union dues. If you resign the union make sure to send your resignation letter by certified mail so you have proof of your resignation and resign by tomorrow. If you do so, the union cannot legally fine you for crossing the picket line. If they still attempt to it's an unfair labor practice and you can file an unfair labor board charge with the NLRB as many former CWA members did after resigning and crossing the picket line with the Verizon strike. Don't expect the union to tell you accurately how to resign. All you need to do is send a letter and the process is laid out here:

You can resign from the union and become an Agency Fee Payer or an Agency Fee objector. Some of you are complete boneheads don't post sh-- that isn't true.

Contact the CWA Agency Fee administrator in Washington and they will confirm the truth.

CWA ADMIN DIRECTORS GETS PAID $130,000?!?!?

How our money is being spent is unreal. The union is a for profit business. Why are all these people get six figures? Could we fight to lower their salary and decrease the amount the take from our checks?

It is obvious that the union doesn't care about us.

They try to force scare us into striking. We are threaten with fines if we don't comply with their orders. They talk poorly about managers for "theatening" us but then they turn around and do they same.

Don't hide behind lies. Provide us with the facts and let us make the decision for ourselves.

Thankfully there are laws that protect of employees from abusive unions.

http://www.nrtw.org/work-during-strike-private/

The union can't prevent you from resigning.

The union can't force you to strike.

The union can't punish you for crossing the picket lines after you resign.

The company you work for can't punish you from striking.

HOWEVER, just as many commenters have made clear- not striking WILL impact the way the union feels about you. Not agreeing with their agenda, having your own thoughts, and caring about your career/future with the company is inexcusable. They threaten you, they call you names, they make demands of you. I pay them, not the other way around. That is not for me.

You CANNOT RESIGN FROM THE UNION. You can withdraw dues but, you must be a bargained for employee if you don't work in management. This poster is likely just a troll trying to blur the lines. The union CAN fine you up to 10X your hourly rate, it's clearly defined in the CWA founding documentation available on their website. I doubt severely they will fine anyone. The stores will likely just be closed on Sunday so just enjoy the time off. This is a short strike take a stand now, so we hopefully will not have a drawn out one.

You can't resign from the union, it is a condition of employmemt onve you have joined. Read your union contract. The union can and will fine all wages earned while being a scab, and it will come directly out your check - at&t doesnt give a f--- whether they pay it to you or the union. If you cross the picket line, you are giving all of your coworkers a big f--- you and they will remember who was a piece of sh-- scab and who wasn't.
