Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

CEO pay

I’m very conservative but I agree with this. The game is rigged. CEOs and Boards are out of control. Engine 1 was pretty smart to use climate change as a red herring to get onto the board and pay themselves large.

@3pdo Make a cogent argument as to why someone deserves >$100M in todays dollars?

At those levels of wealth they don’t “earn” it, they leverage position and other people to take it … only because they can.

I will only mind my business so long as yours doesn’t affect mine. DW clearing $30M to offshore my job affects OUR business/lives, as plebs.

@2tsl Gluttony is also one of those sins …

The RSUs are excessive. Then the corp buys back the stock so it’s antidilutive. All public company executives are overpaid when paid in stock.

@3pdo How very intellectual of you. Did you come up with all of this by yourself?

I’m a capitalist BTW. I just want capitalism to work for everyone, not only the executive class.

@2tsl What you call envy is really just reasonable people questioning grotesque levels of pay inequality.

There is nothing that any executive does that justifies making 300x more than the median employee.

On a side note, your chances of making it into the ownership class are practically nil (by design), but go ahead and keep licking that boot if you like the taste.

@1zvq Which “talents” are you referring to, exactly?

In large publicly-traded companies, the major operational decisions typically fall to the directors, who are paid in the high six-figure range. Above that level, there’s very little to the job beyond schmoozing, meetings, etc. You could argue that schmoozing is a skill, and that high-level meetings are work, but neither countenances the outrageous compensation levels most executives currently earn enjoy.

TL;DR: nobody is worth more than $1M/year, including you.

@OP The CEO is also very conservative.

The difference is that he knows what that actually means in the American system.

To wit:

American conservatism is governed by two separate but closely related goals; the creation & maintenance of a small in-group whom the law protects but does not bind, and the creation & maintenance of a large out-group whom the law binds but does not protect.

If you make less than seven figures annually, and you are not a member of the ownership class, then you are not a member of the in-group, and your conservatism, however sincere, is fundamentally misguided.

After a certain level of compensation, it’s not even money, it’s just a measuring stick. There should be a maximum amount of wealth any person can accumulate, full stop. Society would be better if you had a hole in your wallet past $100M that no more money could fit in.

It’s not success or rewards past a certain point, it’s a sickness that hurts everyone below them.

It's all about the top 0.1% or 0.01% of management talents. You may not agree with their policies and tactics, but did game the system within it's playing construct to get to the top.
Any ppl in the 0.1/0.01 regardless if they are management or youtubers or actors..etc will be paid handsomely because......supply and demand. I have no problem with that.

Wait!? Are you saying the super rich are rigging the system to their advantage? No way!
Do you think that maybe they are also donating (read: paying) the politicians to pass laws that are advantageous to them too?
