Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Back door re-entry

If a direct GM hire is fired or cut as part of a staff reduction, can they get back in as a supplier or contractor?
Has anyone seen this happen?

"We accidentally laid you off. Don't know what we were thinking. So sorry. Please come back."

Most of the people asked to come back after the 2019 layoffs were the young employees laid off with the older employees to hide the age discrimination in layoff targets.

Once the pretense was no longer needed they were asked to come back, and they got to keep the severance package for the trouble they were put through, so they came out ahead.

A lot of people were asked to come back after the 2019 layoffs. I heard of many taking new positions or at different facilities. I've talked to older guys at GM who talk about how they retired and started working for GM suppliers for less hours and more money. There's a big world out there and a lot of companies would love to have people with the background that GM gives you, even if GM doesn't.

For a basic paycheck, benefits, and to avoid an employment gap on your resume.

Imports are down.
Exports are down.
Manufacturing is slowing and inventories are falling - not just in America but globally.
Unemployment claims are up.
Do you see the problem?
Anyone relying on dividends or relying on a job has a very big one.

Why would you want to come back?

Move on.

Get a job at Chrysler first. You can come back after a year in the penalty box.

No, you will become a goat, a Pariah for the entire auto industry. Say hello to unemployment. 😢

I’ve seen some come back as integrated supplier engineers where the tech center is their main office but badged as a supplier’s employee - not GM contract. Not to say it hasn’t happened - I’ve just only seen people back in the office as supplier integrated.
