Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

BTC is future

I really like BTC compared to my previous org (Indian O&G) my supervisor is cool, work is fine, may be good place for next 10 years. Not sure why so much hate on BTC here.

@2sgv+1eldKwty your comment about the BTC may be your belief, but that does not make it true.

I challenge you to put in a ticket with the BTC, using ServiceNow, and just see how long it takes to actually be resolved. You can try having yourself added to a group or something similar; The task can be simple or it may be complex, but it will take weeks to complete, unless you check on it and continue to make sure the ticket moves along the process. I figure the ticket "baby sitting" will be very expensive.

BTC is useful.

People deny that because they feel threatened of their own job (its not BTC's fault) or because of a one bad personal experience they had. It wrong to generalize entire BTC.

BTC has done great job in MR&I and data science. Its developing capabilities in engineering as well.

BTC has its own problems like majority being campus hire, most experienced hires either with non O&G experience or with downstream experience. Very little exposure to BUs and operations on ground. Management stressing on proving value created rather than focusing on skill improvement. People spending a lot of time on admin, meetings, extra curricular activites than technical stuff & learning and attrition is high now as salaries stagnated while other sectors in India have grown rapidly. (People don't see a future in O&G now)

Its not fair to compare BTC with matured centers like houston. Company has invested a lot of time and money in Houston to make it reach this stage.

I am sure with similar investment BTC will be as good as Houston if not more.

The BTC is terrible! The BTCis terrible! The BTCis terrible! Things are takings days, and sometimes weeks, when they should take someone 5 minutes to complete. This does not even take into account the disastrous piece of @#&#*#&, ServiceNow.

Maybe the BTC can be useful and cheap, but they have not shown the useful part yet. They are much more frustrating than useful! I’d guess the rate of the BTC’s current performance/dollar ratio is low due to the slowness of work.

Why can’t I talk to someone about a request and handle the issue in 2 minutes instead of Skyping for 20 minutes??? I’m assuming requiring English speakers would only make the BTC more expensive and even harder to populate with employees. More downhill slide for ExxonMobil.

When did incompetent hires from some of the lowest ranking colleges in India brought into a training and culture of yes man ship and coke sucking became a great plan to produce high quality technical work???

This is a low level cost center and it is all a sham to show value in short terms until everyone pockets their raises and bonuses and retires with lots of green.

A decade later, someone will be left holding this garbage bag. Good thing is that all the managers and executives will retire by then and other US frauds would have moved on to other greener pastures/new frauds

Apart from BTC the most mor-once people I've had the pleasure working with are from the US. I can see how BTC and HOE are interchangeable

@cyz+1eldKwty we all know none of the Dallas execs would lower themselves to relocate to India nor would they think anyone outside the “circle” could handle the positions. Heck they won’t even relocate to Houston haha. Maybe an occasional business trip to India for photo ops but that’s about it.

To the OP, my advice is to learn as much as you can and position yourself to be as marketable as possible, I don’t see BTC lasting 10 years.

Most of the attacks on BTC are related to the job losses in USA required to make BTC successful.

If BTC is the future, please reveal the transition plan to move Dallas Executive positions to India.

Higher quality Executive decisions at a fraction of the cost.

Dallas must put shareholder value first and sacrifice their jobs just like they so often demand of others.

@qeu+1eldKwt it’s because low cost is how BTC has and is currently marketed to business units. Honestly management is happy with a lower quality output if the cost is low enough.
Sad but true, if quality alone was the deciding factor there would not be a BTC.

Some posts concerning BTC keep endlessly talking about lower costs and how this is such a great deal. Maybe at some point there should be a discussion of the QUALITY OF RESULTS, of the QUALIFICATIONS of the work force there.
Particularly relevant to the discussion is if EM provides pay and work conditions that are conducive to hiring and retaining TOP TALENT. Top talent is not cheap and cannot be treated like dirt even in a “low cost country”.

BTC is the future as long as it remains a low cost location, XOM will always be looking for a more cost effective location and would not hesitate to move.
Honestly with the MSPs doing the majority of the work , do we even need actual BTC? A better cost model would be for the BUs to work directly with the MSPs which many already do.
The excessive growth , horrible leadership and increase in overhead will be the downfall of BTC.

If your salary is competitive vs rest of indian market, my advise is you stay. Furthermore if you are happy there, why you should leave. STAY!

Yeah if you have 1 good manager the place is okay and everyone else is complaining. Take a break from the koolaid drinking and realize this is a global company. They can easily turn around when things are getting bad
