Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

ImagineIT will be slashing close to 40% of Employees

Just heard from my supervisor that #ImagineIT will be slashing closer to 40% of us Blue Badges in ITC and across the function, despite indication it would be between 20-30% range, clearly management is not being transparent and is avoiding the topic of telling us how big of a warhammer is going to come down on us.

How is it we pay Lady Geagea's lazy A$$ $13+MM/yr to give us attitude with his angry F-face staring at us on those transformation calls referring to us as "Commodity IT", give me a break. After all the digital talk of IT being critical to Chevron's success, we learn that the DIA was just a way to give another white female a meaningless GM job where she promotes wasting $100MM in IT Spend across the enterprise on big dollar consultants, and let her convince other young women she has added value. She's a joke. Appreciate the ELT wasting money on tokenism and then cutting us employees as a parting gift.

We need a new CIO. He spent a tonne of money on the McKinsey for Digital Acceleration and all we got out of it was a bunch of consultants creating communications and training materials about digital transformation, a system to report about digital transformation activities, 80% of which don't happen and a bunch of people forced to report fake value generated from the ones that do happen.

He also came up with the cloud strategy which prioritises cloud over everything which ended up costing more then data centres and we've also had to hire a bunch of resources to try figure out how to make it work.

I am a 20 year technical Facilities engineer here. I could not even tell you how to get ahold of IT besides 8765 call number, which is a call center somewhere else. You people do not help or are reachable to the people who design, build, operate or core business.

I wonder how many folks in Chevron IT have actually worked for a software company and delivered a product on time ? Judging by the way they work , I would hazard a guess at "None". I have never seen a detailed functional Spec my whole time at Chevron. BTW they are standard requirements at other companies.

Our ITC bill is so high. The cloud is a joke. We doubled our costs because how bloated the cloud program is. It’s as bad as cyber.

ImagineIT is trying to do Upstream Workflow Transformation again but with about half of the people and budget. For those of us who have been around a couple of decades, this is nothing new. Good people will quit. Good people will get promoted into impossible situations because half these leaders who will get laid off only know how to build what they know, and then leave everybody else with the chaos to figure out

If you’re not that attractive outside of Chevron IT, you’re likely on the chopping block. And unfortunately for Chevron IT, they’ve sadly got an enormous amount of such people designing the new org. So once the new org is set, those people who can leave will leave. There are some small groups of IT people who are useful, and those are the people who don’t work like IT people. Huge changes are needed.

CiOs highest achievement is probably his own pinball machine score. Typical useless lip service metric driven incompetent ITC leader who forgets we are an oil company not an IT company that runs like a government department.

IRSM is about 500 (+/-) folks between HQ, embeded BU's and contractors. They wasted 480 Mills on a cyber transformation that didn't deliver sh–, except some nice profits to E&Y. Never seen such a worthless and convoluted organization. HES dejavu. But that's Chevron IT for you :)

And to think that the last PDC showed 183 open/infilled jobs... how can we go from needing people one day to slashing 1/2 the work force (ok, 40%) the next...

I can tell you that the vast majority of the PLT involved with imagineIT actually doesn’t know those percentages per group. They’re all split up into different design teams and the only people who would know what those collective numbers are the BCG and ImagineIT LT plus CIO. And even those numbers are still being worked. It isn’t shady at all... just typical IT with people unaware of everything else going on around them. Taking a really long time figuring out those numbers because that’s IT for ya

@2rzu+15s8EW7D That’s shady. Can someone please leak the rough percentages per group / chapter?

Okay, i just heard the same thing from my manager today who is in the #ImagineIT workshops among the IT PLT. Wow, this is going to s—, they already know the percentages per IT group roughly, but are not going to share until right before each round and say then say they just finished, but they know more or less where the targets will be by chapter. Messed up, bunch of cowards.

It’s probably an even higher percentage than that for people who aren’t or won’t be moving into SE, DS, and IRSM jobs, right?

Use WORKDAY. it has all of your links in one place. Well except for your timesheet, GTMIS, LMS and pathway. It was everything you need all in one platform. Well there not all there some are just broken links to the old system

Way to go, we should keep all of the IT people based on there great past experience

Have you seen just how great Chevron's Azure cloud is? Sharepoint is a joke, The Azure cloud is yet another attempt to try to fix a recurring issue with the corporate Intranet , namely it's lack of speed. Waiting 30 seconds for a listing of directory of files to render is downright incompetence. It's taking 10 times as long to get any work done, compared with before when using the shared drives. Service Now looks to me like another very badly designed interface that is hard to use and navigate. It seems to me the middle management at Chevron tries to make their subordinates jobs harder to do. CLOUD Chevron's Laboring Outdated Unworkable Database. When the survivors come back in Movember to the Town halls and the plan for 2021 is unrolled, of course most will be super on-board and giddy up, ready to take the bait, hook line and sinker. And the whole circus will start again. Agile Please! there's another initiative which will die on the vine and slowly replace by the next fad as it fails too.

My supervisor said it was always at that number, they just dont want to say that cause it sounds bad, hence they never gave an exact number. Shameful. If your in Infrastructure, IRM, IM, ITSD, and many others, start applying now and take your package with you to your next employer.

Lets just replace all IT and functional Digital Advisors with Amazon's Alexa. Alexa please write a machine learning program to produce more oil from Tengiz, drill faster wells in Mid-Con, and also let me know when I am running out of underwear.

Chevron it’s an oil company not an IT company. We should slash IT. It has not increased production, it’s not lowered operating cost, it’s not made anything easier to get well plans and procedures in place and done. What have you done for the core business.

Well...I guess the fact from digital transformation and Cloud based model are to get same work done with less effort and fewer people to ruin&maintain from IT standpoint.
