What type of "talent" do they expect to attract with mediocre pay and no stock bonuses?

@3yio - funny that you think you know my position on EV. Ford forecasted 8% profit margin on EVs by 2026 which isn’t that far off.
Model e employees already get a higher salary than others. They get stock options and they get larger bonuses in comparison for the same rank/level. They can set up their own bonus plan just like FordPro. There is no reason why Ford Blue’s bonus should be tied to Model e performance.
I didn’t set up the silos. I didn’t set up the culture of Model e thinking their are superior to Ford Blue.
The bonus plans should be all inclusive of each operating unit and have no deviation including not having higher bonuses for the same rank/level. If not, be consistent and have different bonus plans/metics for the different business units.
One of the 8-10% that blinded who believe in EV.
"the entire industry sees a rise in EV market share every year."
@3yio+1pldRDi9. Model E doesn't need to attract and retain overpriced "talent". That talent is way behind what could be had much cheaper in China.
@2kdf+1pldRDi9 If Model e got bonuses based on the profit from Model e, theyd never attract and keep talent and they would only get low quality inexperienced employees. But you probably want that because you're anti EV and want model e to die off while the entire industry sees a rise in EV market share every year. Its going to take years to generate a profit from Model e just like Tesla.
EVs aren't going to save the world, but they have a growing place in the market as shown by the industry stats.
@2sru+1pldRDi9. Nobody considers Model e to be a startup, other than stupid management that should be fired. If it were a startup, funding would already have been pulled. But no, it is funded by a legacy business, and that legacy business has significant contractual liabilities, which just got bigger.
@2kdf Ford Next should be “laid off.” Especially all involved with the canopy disaster. This has cost us billions, with zero potential for return of investment. Let’s see if Stern dismantles FLVs fake “new business” team. He certainly should.
Couple points:
- Ford's bonus plan is more than competitive when compared to GM and other OEM's.
- Model e is considered a start-up within Ford, so get real with your demands that it be profitable at this time.
I think Model e should have their own metrics and not get sh-t for a bonus.
Why affect the frowned upon ICE folks by the almighty model e team with their cr-ppy performance?
For that matter Ford Next should take their own hit with their lack of subscription services.
Why are model E engineers given larger bonus targets to lose the company money? They could be easily replaced at a much lower cost. China already has developed better EVs at a lower cost.
@2rnl+1pldRDi9 Hthd is NOT double.
I'm HTHD so I don't know firsthand what the non-HTHD target is but if @2wpr+1pldRDi9 is to be believed (GSR 8 9k target), then my target is double.
Hthd is NOT double.
@2wpr+1pldRDi9 "must be nice to be in management ranks. For GSR8 the target is $9k"
I'm not management, but your numbers for HTHD are incorrect. HTHD is double non-HTHD so if GSR8 (non HTHD) target is 9k, then HTHD would be 18k.
@1iqo+1pldRDi9 - must be nice to be in the management ranks. For GSR8 the target is $9k, with the HTHD "kicker" it's $13.5k. So that's $6.7 - 10k, before being taxed at the maximum rate, so $4 - 6k take home that I can actually spend. I know I'm not going to leave the money on the table, but only actually expecting to see less than half of the advertised bonus amount feels a insulting and abusive. Your telling us it's "far from nothing", based on your larger expectation is yet another example of why there's so much demoralization seen.
@ebl+1pldRDi9 Model E EBIT is -72.8%.
Quality is on plan. Now I get that the talking heads would lead you to believe otherwise, because blaming EVs isn't popular, but numbers don't care about headlines.
What you're saying is akin to saying the WNBA is doing alright, and any deficits are due to something going on with the NBA.
I'm going to guess you're on Model E, in which case we'd ask that you step it up.
This all reminds me what a fantastic job JF has done of obliterating OneFord and creating silos. Silos might not even be accurate enough. More like a Cold war. Meanwhile Ford Pro is chilling like Switzerland.
@kxm+1pldRDi9 yep, your bonus is going to be more dependent on the thinned-down TVM parts not breaking before warranty is up, or without lemon laws hitting us after warranty than any work you do.
@1pzn+1pldRDi9 "... a mere 75% of target. Better than nothing"
Sorry, but 14k is a long way from "nothing".
"Why is no one complaining about the absolute disgrace in benefits and bonus the salaried get vs the UAW. I mean we just took another cut in benefits …"
It is not even worth going to school anymore.
Our soceity has gone topsy-turvey.
How can we even effect EV volume and subscription renewal? Those combined are 30% of bonus metrics. Give me a break. Just another way to shift money from salary to fund UAW
The word on the street is to go marry a uaw person. You’ll be set for life, with free healthcare, nice bonuses, extra overtime so you can buy a boat, and get a cottage up north. When you marry into a uaw family, you won the lottery.
The good news is that the UAW is getting a $5k ratification bonus.
You can see where this is headed.
"Sorry, due to record labor costs and being below plan, we will be suspending salaried bonuses this year."
The new normal.
Don't forget that unless you're a TA the new personal modifier when you meet all your goals is 90% at best. The combination of personal and business performance factors results in a mere 75% of target. Better than nothing, but sure isn't going to motivate anyone with a clue.
I’m not surprised. Few hundred dollars is better than nothing. I’ve had some years when I got nothing. (Eg 2008 - 2011).
Ford Blue products are bringing down the bonus the most via poor quality, more so than Mode e when you drill down.
You are still lucky to get anything.
Why is no one complaining about the absolute disgrace in benefits and bonus the salaried get vs the UAW. I mean we just took another cut in benefits …
My actual job has zero impact on the metrics that determine my bonus. Misaligned incentives? Certainly not motivating…
@ysv+1pldRDi9 So Model e gets zero bonus because they failed to deliver to plan?
No. Ford Blue and Model e get the same bonus.
So Model e gets zero bonus because they failed to deliver to plan?
Thanks to the UAW b-ms
Looks like this was purposely done because of the strike even though the Company made 2.2 Billion. As usualy, EV and services (subscriptions?) were below plan. At least we got Juneteenth out of the strike deal.
