Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Schwab hates women and minorities

Absolutely no representation in leadership, no inclusive culture ESPECIALLY in sales. I have too many examples of s-xism to even list here… managers talking about other leaders or people being “difficult,” or “very direct” referring to women in leadership roles who act just the same as men in leadership roles. Grow up! It’s 2023. Schwab would be so much better off with an update to leadership, and addition of women and minorities there. Very disappointed.

We used to have a bring your son or daughter to work day. You could also bring your pet if you don't have children. One team member brought a hamster. It escaped. Someone stepped on it. It was messy. Cleaning crew called. A lot of tears. After that, no more bring your son, daughter, hamster, pet into work day.

@2gui+1oziIyYk Trust me once you have been in tech more than a year no one gives a sh_t about your GPA. Or where you manager or scrum master went to school.

My Manager, Scrum Master, Tech Lead and Architect are all women. They went to unknown schools with worthless degrees. I got my masters in computer science with a 3.8 CGPA from a pretty reputable well known US university and I'm shocked lot of dead weight in the company. Nothing against women I've worked with a few female co-workers who are awesome programmers and they all have been though reputable US universities.

Undoubtedly the OP is a dude. If he were a legit, hot-blooded, pink-haired Karen the Psycho Feminazi we would see at this point standard words like oppression, patriarchy, toxic masculinity, mansplaining, manspreading, and oldie-but-goodie Misogyny. I saw the "a straight white male" in one reply, which is at least something. ;)

Obviously I am joking, but I can't help but notice there are more and more posts with the same kind of rhetoric. I suspect the CS Event Coordinators got a new gig: to troll these boards into oblivion.

Don't feed the trolls

Schwb wants everyone to play nice-Schwab nice. If you ask to many questions or bring up any concerns - you are put on a list - and when they need to get rid of people watch out! They don't have ears for improvement - those decisions are made at the top and trickle down-so much for conversations on how to make things better or more efficient

How many more women you need in this company ? Many of those who clearly don’t have any idea of where they exist . How about the OP starts a company and only hires women and minorities.

@1hjn+1oziIyYk I am a guy and I was told the same things, I guess is just the culture. You open your mouth and you get reprimanded. You keep quiet then you are not participating. You do your job then you are disengaged. It's been years and I still cannot figure this sh-t out.

So much for "challenging the status quo" eh?

Women on my tech adjacent team have been told not to talk in certain meetings that are attended by mostly men.

We hear lots of coded language about "Schwab nice" and "influencing" and don't be too "emotional" or "excitable" or have a "tone." Asking questions makes you look "direct." Listen intently instead and you're "too quiet". Whatever you are, it's too much.

All I see are professional women asking reasonable questions that might lead to future work or gasp (dont say it!): Change.

Funny all the commenters are men. Was literally told women are lazier than men, comments about other (pregnant) women’s appearance, told recognition I get is due to being a female. Was told that even though leadership didn’t think I qualified for roles, I should apply since they want to meet DEI quotas—that one was by a leader.

100% agree. This is especially true for women who work with tech teams. I see a lot of unspoken internalized misogyny and gaslighting. But the worst misogynists at Schwab are the women who throw women under the bus to be seen as one of the guys. I guess that's a good future strategy being that men are more likely to rise through the ranks at Schwab.

Very different from my experience - VPs I've worked under thus far: 4 women, 3 men. I've noticed that more women than men were encouraged to go through special leadership training for next level, too. One (male) SVP even asked of his (female) VP to create a group with special goal of championing goals and interests specific to women through lectures, workshops, and networks.

Is your post the kind of "direct" you're being coached for? Maybe listen.

You're not "speaking truth". You're full of sh-t.
I've had every opportunity as my male peers. I've seen them get passed over or strongly "coached", because of the slightest hint of misogyny.

You grow up...then maybe you'll get a chance to promote.
