Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

I'm hearing rumors of potential cuts

I don't see how it can be true since we barely have enough people to get anything done. Can anybody share more info or let me know if this is true or not?

With the current economic environment being what it is, most people are going to change their behavior when it comes to spending their money, and eventually that will have a ripple effect on retail stores. It may take several months, but I predict you will see hour cuts and layoffs/position eliminations in the near future. The stores simply will not be allowed to maintain current expense levels with top line sales trending downward. Add in the poor performance of the first quarter compared to the company's largest peer and there is even more incentive for there to be major cuts in the stores. It's coming.

Been with the company 2 decades, worst I've seen. I'm one of those retirees who works PT, mainly to get out of the house and have a little pocket money.

I think that all in-store leads and project selling will eventually be funneled to the IHC’s, thus eliminating the need for any specialists in the stores. Then they will simply need stockers, cashiers, and planogram-setters(mst) in the stores and pay accordingly. It’s all about taking cost out of stores and this is how they will do it. Pretty soon all you will see working in the stores will be college kids and retirees that are willing to work part-time hours and simply want to supplement their income.

Why not cut out MHRBP - they only tell you to call AR anyways.

Then cut out market level MST leadership and give control to store managers.

"Marv needs to cut the fat at the top, not the worker bees that do all the work." He is the fat at the top along with the other useless executives that he brought in. We need a union to get a major cost of living increase and protect ourselves from the executive team. They can't move the jobs to china, they can close the stores but then they would be out of business. Soon you might as well be homeless and starving on the street because what we are getting paid has already eroded by at least 10% do to inflation and it is going to get much worse. We have nothing to lose by organizing, if they retaliate file a complain with NLRB. I really don't understand how they can be so stupid, workers are hard to find, good workers near impossible but lets make our employees miserable and they won't do anything about it.

I agree it's going to be District staff if it's the specialist who's going to handle all the issues with IMS not remote. Ask for Home Depot install they got rid of all the call center employees and brought it right back into the store have less troubles behind when they did that

I think specialists will be eliminated also, and IHC program will be scaled back. We are in a recession and inflation YOY is almost in double digit territory. A business slowdown is inevitable as consumers need their dollars just buy gas and food. The only way to keep the stock up in that kind of environment is to slash expenses and payroll. I predict that massive layoffs and position eliminations are coming.

@2ore+1h9YXdjj - Well said.

As a customer, I'm finding it harder and harder to find competent help in the store. Especially in plumbing.

They used to have guys that were actual plumbers and really knew their sh-t. Now, sometimes you can't find anybody in the department. At all.

The last team meeting I was in I cut so much gas. My store manager asked me if I was ok and I said “I don’t get paid enough to be concerned about your comfort levels with my fl-------e” and ripped a really loud one while staring at him in his soul-less, black beady eyes. I don’t care anymore. My zipper was down most of the time during my last shift and I haven’t been showering. So what? I have to get on a zoom call so the HR lady can tell me to wear deodorant? They don’t pay me enough to exhibit “hygeine”.

Specialists will go away. The good ones that care about their jobs, do their jobs the best they can, get yelled at daily over policy changes in the company, and cannot max a bonus will leave. Goals which are based on non public and unrealistic sales goals. They can be paid more working in a factory or actually make more on commission selling less $$$ per year. Specialists are basically managers without an override card. Once the good ones are gone, the winning together bonus everyone doesn't get will be impossible to reach. Unless there is another pandemic. You can base your pay off of hope or put the work in where you belong.

IMO...all specialty/installed sales will eventually be procured and sold remotely. Appliance specialists will go away and become csa's who will basically become order takers. No need for higher monthly specialist bonuses when lower paying quarterly winning together bonuses saves Lowe's money!

The only thing in stores left to cut is sales specialists. They've removed any incentives from the position all that is left is a title.

I’d be more surprised if they don’t do cuts. Marvin and team have put a spotlight on improving margin. They won’t be able to overcome this economy and beg consumers to shop us, so they’ll have to cut their way to better profitability. They’ll make numbers look artificially better for the next quarter or two while employee morale tanks and customers flee.

Lowe's "realigns" jobs every year! I think they will be looking above store level (think District level staff with no direct reporting, etc.). Those are higher dollar folks that unfortunately do not serve purpose as most of their items are centralized now at corporate office.
