Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

No amount of administration will prevent accidents and mistakes

Normal work hours, workforce treated with respect, competent managers, and the number of employees sufficient to do the amount of work will. Administrative work, aka trying to cover cr-p with papers, can not alleviate the effects of constant cost cutting. Plus, who really has time to do fu--ing paperwork?

Not according to management! According to them, their rules will prevent everything! What's really sad is that they're pushing the critical rules BS really hard, and yet most of them will break the very same rules that they just wrote other people up for. Competence is not a job requirement to be a manager. If it was, then things at the UP would be very different then they are now. It's just another reason why the management and senior management side needs to be looked at more closely. They don't know what they're doing, they're fudging numbers, and making things up to use against people to satisfy their write-up quotas. To the UP, they can cover up anything with the right amount of paperwork and administration procedures. No one does it more, and no one can lie about it better than they can.

@2nuk did the railroad hire you to counter negative posts? Or are you just a manager who is your self reaponsible for the poor condition of this company? It is you who should go look for a job some place else where your ignorance and incompetence cant sc--w anything up or get someone hurt or ki-led. When these guys give examples of what is wrong w/ this company, that is the first step towards improving this company.

Did the railroad beg you to hire out or did you apply for a job? Stop your belly aching or move onto a different job that you can handle.

GW is taking all switching jobs along with local work from class 1s and carriers with 3 crew members.
Was it worth 25.000 to sell the br1 off on locals? For 11.000 after deductions?
You all sold each other off!

Hey @1lxu, when I hired on 25yrs ago there were 5 people that did the area I now cover, by myself. One at a time they kept cutting. The equip is more complicated, there is more of it, and everything takes longer to do. No one ever said that was gonna happen. So now that I am locked into railroad retirement if I quit and break my current connection we all know how that hurts only us. In case you havent noticed the sparse and sporadic hiring they do now, so many of those newbies are quitting. That didnt used to happen like it is happening now.

You were told what the job was before you hired out. Do your job and quit complaining. You hire out and then complain you don’t like it.
