Return to work

Is the RTW enforced strictly this time or it’s same wishy washy like last time? I just don’t want to be back in office without questions and find out whole floor is WFH. What are you hearing?

Seems like this time, the RTW is across the board which is a good thing. It was bu-----t that some teams were in the office in June and others chose to stay working from home. Hope OXY takes a firmer stance this time around. All or none.

Probably a bitter retiree still fuming about the dividend being obliterated and thinking having us physically present in the same building will change the situation.

The comment below is clearly not an oxy employee (I’m guessing karma troll) and clearly no one that works at oxy now.

Where is the backbone now. Just tell the employees this is the way it is and if you don’t like it go away. Don’t put up with any nonsense from the employees. It is not worth it and you can easily find replacements unless the jobs involve bagging groceries or waiting on tables in a restaurant.

A recent study shows that a person who was vaccinated and then had a breakthrough delta infection was almost twice as likely to pass the virus as someone who was infected with Alpha.

Why don’t we see this in the news?

I just hope this time around everyone gets the same treatment as everyone else. Last time we went back to the office hardly anyone was coming in. My group came in until we were sent home in late July-August. Other groups were allowed to WFH and others not allowed. If someone gets to WFH because they don’t want to put their kids in daycare then others should be allowed to stay home. It is hard to explain to employees why certain ones get to stay home and others don’t, and it creates bad blood between co-workers. If people have a medical reason or their child does that is a different story, but not finding daycare should not be an excuse anymore.

The CDC Weelky report of August 6 says a vaccinated person with Covid can spread the virus the same as an unvaccinated person. Check out the report on the CDC website. Stating the opposite is spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories, or just making shlt up.

According to the article you are correct. Have the data changed since july?

@3pty you are incorrect. Vaccinated people, who become infected, carry equivalent viral loads.

Everyone wants to complain whether vaccinated or not. You have a choice and that is to quit. You might not like it, but it is 100% your choice to work or find another job that fits you better. Put in a reason to WFH with HR and if it works you get what you want, but stop pointing fingers and make your own choice. Oxy us none of us anything but a paycheck and benefits we get with our jobs.

When Oxy brings us back to the office, meeting organizers should convert their meetings from Teams to in-person meetings. My calendar is completely packed with Teams meetings, all day, all week. I don’t want to commute to the Woodlands just to be in my office on Teams meetings all day. Shoot, I can do that from home and skip the commute. I could use that commute time for 2 more hours of work.

The unvaccinated are the real problem because once infected they have a very high viral load compared to the vaccinated. Therefore they are now the super-spreaders. Get everyone vaccinated and the virus risk will be greatly diminished.

“ The vaccines never guaranteed 100% protection, but they do drastically decrease your chance of a bad outcome if you do acquire the virus.”. Thanks for pointing out that this is about the infected person having or not having a bad outcome, not whether YOU could catch the virus from a vaccinated person or unvaccinated person, which you could.

I am vaccinated and don’t want to work with unvaccinated employees because they may spread the virus to me and then I would go home and spread it to my vaccinated family. I would rather work with vaccinated people who don’t spread the virus. Wait, what?…

Concerning Duke, the majority of the cases are asymptomatic and none have led to hospitalization thus far.

The vaccines never guaranteed 100% protection, but they do drastically decrease your chance of a bad outcome if you do acquire the virus.

BTW, you are not "immune" to the virus even if you were infected in the past. But the combination of previous infection plus vaccine can give you exceptional protection.

Clearly you have not seen the nearly 100% vaccinated colleges or cruises having covid outbreaks. Look up Duke and Cornell.

Vaccines don’t prevent infection, and natural immunity is being completely ignored.

“Although Duke boasts the highest vaccination rate among major North Carolina universities and is requiring all students and staff to receive their shot by October 1, last week 349 students and 15 employees tested positive for the virus. All but eight were fully vaccinated. These cases have arisen in the context of vaccination rates for students standing at 98 percent, and 92 percent for faculty. Students are also tested weekly and those who are unvaccinated are required to take a test twice a week.”

How could you have a breakout if everyone is vaccinated. Those not vaccinated should really be told to take a hike from Oxy if they don’t have a valid reason for not getting the vaccine. The testing was done to appease the spoiled few who are to blame for the covid problems these last few months.

It's not wishy washy this time. They've weighed the risk and decided that losing money is more important than risk of infection. Which shouldn't be a surprise. Keep communicating so you know what's going on and outbreaks don't get covered up. Good luck to y'all.

If you think you have a legit reason to WFH then Oxy is giving us the opportunity to put in for that. I did for medical risk reasons and I am waiting to hear back. If they say "no" then I need to make a decision on whether to come back to work or not. It is not Oxy's responsibility to let me work from just because I feel it is best for me. It is my decision to come back or not if they say no, and to be honest that is fair. Oxy owes me nothing and if I don't want to go back then I will find another job to work remotely. The sooner you understand you are owed nothing, and control your own future then the better off you are. It really is that simple, and is basically making the best decision for yourself and your family.

@2myh, are you still hunkered down at home in your hidey-ho-e? The rest of us are going out to stores, restaurants, movies, football games, and living life, so going back to the office and being around people is just a normal day. Get out and live your life, and get your behind back to the office and do your job.

Just because you are vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t catch or spread it. If I catch it from OXY going into the office and take it home maybe even spreading it to my relatives during the holidays. If you’re suggesting not “gathering” around relatives what exactly are we doing going into work. Isn’t that a “gathering”

The flu goes around every year so get your flu shot. Explain why holiday gatherings have anything to do with return to work. Oxy requires either the covid vaccine or testing so even if your family gives you the virus you should be covered. The safest thing is to not get together with extended family over the holidays.

You can come in at 6am and leave at 3pm or come in at 9am and leave at 6pm if you don’t take a lunch.

Core hours of 9 to 3 is a nice idea. Unfortunately it would be abused. Some people would arrive a little late, take a long lunch, and then leave to go home early. Well maybe that isn’t too different from wfh.

I wish office days were just for core hours of 9-3 and rest of the day was wfh. Save big time on commute=Reduced stress=Happier, more productive employee. 9-3 TWR is ample time to gain the benefits of being in the office.

God I’m dreading going back to the office. I have been so much more productive wfh and less stressed than when I’m in the office feeling micromanaged. The tax breaks are so minimal compared to what the company spends in overhead for cr---y greenway 5 each year. The 1.1MM tax break doesn’t even cover our electricity bill there.

So I know a lot of us would like to stay WFH because we get just as much of that done. Over on the Exxon site I found the below about Exxon losing tax breaks because of not having at least the minimum of a pre-determined headcount in the offices. It all makes sense because in this case The Woodlands Township wants people in offices for many reasons, and one is to keep the local economy running off the employees. I would think at least Oxy would have the same tax break in The Woodlands, so for me this really explains it better than anything else. If you take the tax breaks and add them up across all locations it would be a nice savings every year, and that is good for Oxy and any other company or individual. Over the past almost two years Oxy has been more than fair with the remote work, but it is time to get back in the office and not lose tax breaks, etc. Unfortunately, Covid and other such viruses are here to stay, and if we are going to survive as a society we need to get back to some sort of routine. I have been looking at other remote jobs and remote and hybrid are being offered on many listings, but they are in a different industry and for lower pay, so it really is all up to the individual. If you don't like coming in just take matters into your own hands and find a remote job that fits you best.

All first line supervisors will be responsible for taking attendance every day and turning in a report to their managers/directors. If people are not showing up the company will take action.
