Wonder what feedback you may hear about this new program. Two new top technical ladder positions were created. LAPC and CVX had them. LOXY didn’t before, there wasn't a need really. I really hope this initiative doesn’t fail but like everything else around Oxys history may be short lived after the initial hype. Not sure how “time to explore” will be accomplished when one is already busy. “Global capability advancement” sounds nice but we all know Expat positions belong to the established trust circles. Are they raising the bar this way so we eventually get a raise (3 years now) or just justification for the Apache mafia to move higher?

Why would you want your best technical people to leave?
Oxy wants young cheap labor. With the exception of over paying the Apache chiefs, the Hess wizards or sporadic one-off ones that comes back.
What do you they did in 2019?
Why would you want your best technical people to leave? Naive.
They didn’t do this thinking of LAPC people who they don’t give a rats arse about. It was done to promote all who qualify so that they will stay. But why not just force the high level technical people to take the VSP like they did in 2019. It works for most accept for those that are too stupid to leave this collection of garbage.
@2mve no. LAPC distinguished advisors are equivalent to principles or fellows. They are all sr consultants right now because that was the only option Oxy had to map them to. It was a demotion. That’s partially why Oxy created this, to get the distinguished people back up closer to their comp.
@2gmw+19eNK4Tz that is equivalent to Oxy’s Sr Consultant. Look up the LAPC individuals who were Distinguished Advisors. Their Oxy titles now are Sr Consultants.
@2oct yes LAPC did have it, the grade was called Distinguished. It’s even one of the reasons Oxy decided to do this. APC didn’t have chiefs.
LAPC never had Fellow or Principal technical positions or anything equivalent to them
Will Oxy have a special wall to display the pictures of the top dozen on the technical ladder. Perhaps they could also have a wall to show “The legends of Oxy, the great people who made this company”.
Just another way for the Apache Mafia to gain higher status. They've been really working hard to gain such credibility, since 2014 to be exact. Pushing out LOXY and moving key players into managerial roles seems to have been working for them.
OP if you haven’t had a raise in 3 years you may want to take a deep look at yourself.
APC had a level for this called “Distinguished”. There were very few who achieved it and they earned it. One didn’t gain the title by age alone. I wouldn’t know the details for sure but from what I saw of the remapping from APC to OXY they took major cuts in total compensation.
Good point. In the professional world just being older or having more years of experience should not lead to a higher level. What is wrong with this place.
Many of the consultants are at their current pay grades not because of the exceptional contributions or knowledge but the fact that they have been in the industry much longer than the slightly younger folks.
These consultants are picking up bigger paychecks that are not proportional to the values they are delivering. Don’t get me wrong, some are totally worth the bigger paychecks, while some probably should be cut.
They must have had compression at the top of the technical ladder. A consultant level was no longer like the old consultant level of 10 years ago because so many people were ending up getting promoted. They needed to expand the ladder to reward the people who are truly exceptional.
