Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

These layoffs were different

Having experienced layoffs in the past NetApp typically offered packages for those who voluntarily resigned before the sudden "We are eliminating your position" notices.

It just proves the culture at NetApp is about taking care of the good ole boys.

@2juk+1l0haFWU : I was a volunteer to leave with a package, they wouldn't let me, as if you never get fired if you want to be !

I was told NetApp does not let you put your name on a list. I had an employee 7 years ago, it was a big December cut, say I know the layoff is coming I want to become a realtor, lay me off it would work perfect. I went up and was told I could stack rank him low but I can't say cut him for sure. He was one of the few that didn't get cut with his function. He quit a few months later

@1chw+1l0haFWU That's messed up, was this E-Series in Wichita? If so, they got hit hard. E-Series and SolidFire platforms are going away...

They wouldn’t even let our manager deliver the news that 17 of the 24 people were being laid off. They told us he was out sick last week. Turns out they laid him off before us and then wouldn’t let him be part of the conversations. He tried to fight to be there but his severance was threatened if he didn’t keep quiet. So yeah there were some bad plays to be had for sure. Can’t speak to the whole process tho, only how it impacted my team.

I would have taken a voluntary resign package if it had been offered to me. Would have saved the conversation with my manager while he was nearly in tears over having to cut 1/3 of his team.
