@Xium: to be most effective, start with self inflicted chops please.
"so many of us that took severance in 2020 have been approached"...not real surprising. When the shop is now full of more sprint champions than petrotechs they are in desperate need a a few "doers"
My Retirement Plan:
- MOVE TO MEXICO
- GIVE UP CITIZENSHIP
- COME BACK ILLEGALLY
- SET FOR LIFE!
It's more than a little strange that so many of us that took severance in 2020 have been approached about coming back in some capacity, particularly when HES has a P/E of 30, will get a 20% premium on their stock (i.e, CVX is overpaying by a lot for that acquisition), and MW's promise of a 12% ROC won't happen without massive personnel reductions. CVX is trailing all peers on nearly all metrics, and anybody that's been through a MW shuffle knows the man doesn't like to break promises. There's no way to effectively reduce expenses and bolster the bottom line without cutting the major expense items, and that means jobs. Even at the outside, 5 year layoff cycle will start midyear 2024, just in time for the HES acquisition to be finalized. Anybody that actually needs $$$ should think hard about how long it will be before reductions begin and plan accordingly.
Any word on layoffs? Yes, word is coming to a workplace near you in early 2024. The inevitable global downturn that’s creeping this way and will reach recession depths overseas first, then in the US. With less demand for energy, we will be getting hammered again with layoffs. Don’t overspend this holiday season and pay off your credit card debt before New Years Eve.
How about all the MCBU engineers that are over estimating reserves and production, the underestimating D&C cost to make themselves look good. Meanwhile we’re stuck with holding the bag.

Totally false, I’ll bet my bottom dollar that no further investment goes into Australia or TCO.
I don't know. I've got a team in procurement who sit around all day watching HR training videos. Myself, I'm already looking for a soft landing spot.
Our team is still short staff and hiring pretty actively. Prices are high so we need to keep moving on projects.
I don’t expect any layoffs in the near future or even a year away. Oil and gas prices are high and are not expected to drop in the next 12 months or until after the 2024 Presidential elections.
I hear they are about to announce the funding for extras trains to ABU and TCO in the coming months.
Chevron has given notice that PDC layoffs will commence on 10/31. Management will take this opportunity to make a few cuts at Chevron as part of the move to streamline the organization.
Stop staring at your cell phones and do some work.
Classic boomers - it was great in when they were there but leave behind a wake of destruction for us to pick up
He has decimated upstream, it’s like he came in with some vendetta.
Once again, I need me a layoff so I can get a payoff!!!
May be the company went south when MW started pulling D/S folks who where his cronies to U/S. He destroyed Upstream HQ, created CPF populated with all downstream bean counters and cronies from DuPont. Who continuously deviated from upstream standards or CES because they knew better. Screwed up ETC by laying off/force retiring many Senior Engineers to make space for these CPF folks. Put a no clue weirdo in-charge of APPS. Getting rid of Geotechnical and Drilling talents because they were costing too much and replaced them with facilities eng from Pascagoula!!! Pushed down factory modelling which never made money. Now with the reorganized company entire upper management is from D/S, supporting every stupid idea this guy has or has borrowed from Mckinsey. After such strategic changes isn't it obvious why the company suffers?
The whole company is toxic....do why surprised the threads on here become toxic.
Amazing how legitimate posts here turn toxic.
For those who were approached by HR, what what was or is your function?
@2izo, sour grapes. I can only hope you're as lucky we Boomers were, to work during fun times with clear (and aligned) career and corporate goals, to work for a company that (most of the time) was concerned about our well-being, however you want to define that. Yes, we had to dodge layoffs repeatedly, but so will you. It was only towards the end of our careers (and definitely after MW/RM took over) that employees became social engineering pawns, and Chevron lost its focus as an oil company. You aren't going to find any retirees who say, "Gee, I wish I had stuck around longer!". Yes, we are happy in life.
If all these retirees are so happy in life and swimming in a pot of gold why are they spending their time trolling a chevron lay off site. I’m guessing these are the same people that had no life balance while at work and now have nothing better to do than count cash and moan at a distance, instead of actually enjoying life. Please enjoy your cash as life is short!
Can’t believe Chevron has become a company nobody wants to work for. Sad but absolutely deserve it
The timing of my layoff couldn’t have been better timed. I was let go in the exact year and month I had planned for myself some 10 years earlier. Perfect timing and with a bonus one year salary for severance. I also maxed out all my unemployment benefits without looking anywhere for work, I was actually on vacation overseas. Thanks, Chevron. I enjoyed the 34 year ride to the hilt. Happily retired on my 30 acre spread, far from the pain in the a$$ city slickers I tolerated for far too long.
Yup, also been approached. Politely passed on it. Given the unceremonious way we were sent off in 2020 (yes, Covid did play a part), I'm not rushing to come back to bail out the know-it-alls who pushed us out in 2020 and my friends in 2015. This would also mess up all the financial arrangements we've made for retirement, and I don't need any more earnings or time to max out my social security, when I get around to taking it. Believe me, you really have to have a warped "work-life balance" to go back to work once you've discovered retirement.
Fellow deadwood here - the information is true as stated below. Confirmed first hand. I will not be accepting the offer, I made other plans.
All jokes. Nobody’s approaching nobody. I’m HR
Been approached as well....looks like someone has recognised the need for quailty over bs.........I will not be taking the offer made good as it is, I am happy away from the rat race.
As said below HR are out trying to recruit some of the so called "deadwood " who took the package in 2020. I had the phone call and follow up email offer.....the company must be seriously hurting for talent, my leaving salary plus 22% and all other service perks reinstated as of my retirement date.
Looks like the young go getters who know everything, will soon be gone.
Myself and several other old timers who took the nice little package offered in 2020 have been approached by HR if we will consider returning to the payroll. We have been gone 3 years so no claw back on the severance.
Apparently the company is looking to replace some less than adequate personnel who are going to be laid off.
I for one am actually thinking about the offer.
I’m hearing the opposite. Going to outside hires because can’t feel roles.
Yes. More people than jobs in PDC. Quiet layoffs.
CTC is doing it
