Anybody care to comment on attrition rates in Midland ?

I’m hearing that some managers are contemplating leaving or have already left.

Who and when was able to have to now gone cost of living adjustment initiated to begin with? How long did it take and how many resignations?

Add insult to injury Midland home prices are decreasing so you now owe more than you can sell for. When you move back to Houston or most anywhere else right now home prices have increased a lot so the house you buy outside Midland now costs more. You lose in both ends.

Move to midland. Work in Crown Jewels. Work 60 / 70 hours a week. Get piped. Now you are stuck in midland with a home & have to self fund to relocate out of this SH/T hole.

Workload is out of control. They cut way too deep plus all these resignations. Spiral down will continue and gain momentum. People resigning puts more pressure on those who remain reducing the incentive for them to stay as they are working more and more. Takes months to train a replacement during which time more is required of those who remain.

Ironic the company doesn’t try harder to keep the people it needs to develop it’s supposed crown jewel project of the Permian. Do they honestly think they can plug any engineer into unconventionals and win? There is a reason Tillerson said to leave XTO alone. If you do unconventionals the ExxonMobil way your costs are going to go sky high.

I heard he was going to a competitor which normally means they walk the person out the door immediately. I’m surprised they let him stay two weeks. Indication tone they are losing a key player who isn’t easily replaced.

Too bad management is unable to do anything. Midland has been through this before. It is why the cost of living adjustment was implemented in the first place. Seems departing management torpedoed their replacements by cutting it just before they were all reassigned. Replacements would be wise to relearn quickly the lessons of the past. When others pay significantly more of coarse people will resign.

An engineering manager resigned. Many others have resigned. Field workers and office workers. New hires and many years with the company. Others are paying more. Why stay?

Several who have recently been transferred to Midland/Carlsbad have chosen not to relocate their families. This should be an indicator of how many folks are taking the forced transfer to hang on to a job while they search for other opportunities or ride out until retirement. Carlsbad relocations are worst, as one pays NM State Income Tax with transfer and Carlsbad itself is not a city to reside in. Life in Artesia is better, but requires 36 mile commute each way... Offices in Carlsbad are mostly in portable buildings.
Midland is a bit better, but still not a desired location to work or live. Company is not to concerned with attrition bad enough yet. When it does, the premium will return.

My team lost a guy in Midland last week, got a better job. Everyone in Midland and Carlsbad is pretty negative when I talk to them, probably because their compensation decreased by 27% while the workload went way up. I’m leaving as soon as possible.
