I don't know what to do because I can't find a job that suits me and offers remote work. On the other hand, I don't feel like going to the office at all, because I think it's a pointless waste of my time and money for gas. Besides I can be even more productive working from home and get everything done faster and without problems. I would be happy to agree to a smaller pay here, as long as I don't have to RTO. Anyone else?

Ex-retiree: You obviously don't know how product engineering is done in 2022.
It's done with meetings and designs - all on laptops, which can be anywhere.
The only opportunity to "touch/feel" is in a virtual build, which we are required to attend BECAUSE WE ARE HYBRID.

If you'd give up 30k you're paid WAY TOO MUCH
It's worth it to take a pay-cut at another company that allows remote work. The benefits to employee and company are tangible. For my personal situation, I would accept up to a $30k pay-cut, as long other criteria important to me remain on par.
Bottom line- some businesses require PRESENCE - retail, as an example.
As for GM, a retiree after 37 years, LAUNCHING new products requires on-site work. It only makes sense to touch/feel/hear any issuee, to then return to the office (aka home) to resolve.
I retired after 37 years with GM. Now, in my retirement phase, I am about to embark in an opportunity that requires me onsite. No problem. All my 37 years with GM required me to be onsite. I managed, even while managing a family of 5 children. I did it.
Figure out what you need in place to return to the office- child care, commuting, etc.

We are past the tantrums, threats, denial, and anger. We are now in the negotiation stage. January 30, 2023 was decided on. I don't think negotiations are on the table.
