The Value of Tanzu

With all the recent leadership departure of Tanzu, does anyone actually believe that Broadcom will see value in it?

Anyone see the email with the giant change in TKG strategy? Anyone with 1/2 a brain knew that an abstraction over cloud providers k8s offerings is id--tic and the only thing to focus on would be k8s+vsphere.

Why aren’t the id--ts who are still at VMware that were responsible for this failed strategy being fired? Oh yea, because you can’t get fired from VMware.

Hock Tan, please save us from this stupidity and get rid of these overpaid id--ts who fail upwards!

Any updates? Layoffs going to happen to the k8s group that isn’t profitable?

Why can’t we just shut this k8s cr-p down?

The science project continues, at least until Hock ki-ls it.

It is as if a garbage truck pulled up to your data center and started dumping e-waste everywhere and a sales guy said that MacGyver would be around soon to sort it all out.

Not hard when you had like two customers prior to the quarter

I hate Tanzu because of the people.

If you succeed and are profitable, great!

I would never ever work with the Tanzu k8s teams again. The worst professional experience ever. Hard to under state the dysfunctional Zoo that is Tanzoo.

Many, I mean many many people feel the same way.

I see all tanzu haters come back with old rotten points. Tanzu is self sustainable now and moving in right direction. Tanzu had double digit growth in last quarter. Keep crying all tanzu haters, atleast it will give you some pleasure in your life 😊

There is no value in TanZoo. Why would any company buy a K8s product that has 4 separate releases (TKGi, TKGm, TKGs v7 and v8) with a lack in Engineering development, support, features and security. There has been no uptick in growing the staff along with trying to make themselves look like they support OSS (TAP) even though they got rid of their open source release for the community edition of TanZoo. Better jump ship before it's too late - if leadership is already leaving, it's only a matter of time before the rest of the ship sinks...

WWHD? That's easy. Is the Tanzu line mature and embedded deep into core accounts? Does it generate positive EBITDA cash flow? If both conditions are not met, it'll be sold or spun off.

Private equity loves to gobble up growth phase businesses and there's tons of liquidity waiting for a deal.

Left BU not too long ago, and I can tell you that you can't wrap your head around how dysfunctional it is until you leave. It was like being able to breathe for the first time...
No more invasive or ridiculous questions from colleagues. Some have worked their for 4+ years and still don't know how to do their job properly, all while crying about how they deserve a bigger salary.

Tanzu will likely be sold. He will likely find some fool to buy it at a big price. That is the best outcome for Tanzu. It has not delivered for VMware. Hoc will only keep those things that are making money today or will do so within 1-2 years.

What! No more science projects?

Finally some sanity and accountability. I don’t like the way Hock runs a business, but man, the way this BU is run doesn’t make sense either.

All the cool kids say k8s… 🤪

I guess enough existing VMware customers will want to run k8s on vSphere?

For everything else in the Tanzu umbrella, including TAP, I don’t see it as a “#1 market leader in its category” to quote why Hock keeps products, so I don’t expect much else but vSphere support to survive the acquisition.

I think, as with all parts of VMware, that Broadcom will simply say to the laughable ‘leadership’ of that BU ‘take 12 months, prove you make actual money, or we’ll say goodbye to you’. On that premise, I’d expect that BU to disappear.

When there are much easier options to deploy it has fallen flat with many customers. Idea was cool, but VMware integration was way overly estimated. M is the easiest to use, and the one with the least amount of integration. I have seen press releases, but there is a reason most of the top talent in that bu has left.

I have yet to meet one person who can articulate the value of Tanzu. You can't just say kubernetes over and over again.

does anyone actually believe that Broadcom will see value in it?

Which value?

  1. This is my precious, and I will never part with it.
  2. This original Honda CBR 750 is of little value to me, but somene will buy it.

Hock said it's important but that could be smoke screen for buyer to jump in

It's possible that Tanzu could be sold off now, for the value of the technology that can be added to another product/portfolio, where it will be better monetized.

The danger with an acquisition of this size: now we are 10 months past the announcement date, and valuations and markets have changed drastically.
