I have a good opportunity to get a side gig, I need the extra money, but I'm not sure if that would get me in trouble with State Farm. Does anyone have experience with side gigs while working here? I would appreciate any advice.

A team member is doing another full time remote IT job. Do they allow this in code of conduct disclosure?
If you have time to have a side job you must not work in claims
Another level 1 blaming someone else for their ineptness.
@2fah+1gkSn0dx Happened to me also.
My do nothing TM in Systems had a business on side and did nothing at work. Exploiting dual incomes and SF time and benefits and pension money for doing little of nothing.
Normal folks don't do that
Sounds like a lame excuse by the person to explain away their poor performance and blame it on someone else. That is a recurring theme on this site. I know at at least 4 people with a side gig and very one including the TM knows as well. It hasn’t affected their ratings at all.....
Don't tell ANYONE. They may accuse you of code of conduct violations, using company time, and resources, even if that is not true. One person in our department has a side hussle on ebay, strictly in the weekend, and he casually told his TM about it. Well, comes the annual review time, the employee received a low rating, with comments citied that his side business is a distraction prevented him from being a high performer at SF. Totally lame situation, but it did happen.
My department has YouTubers, photographers, and even a marriage counselor all working full time at other places. The marriage counselor even lists this as her primary job on LinkedIn. Nobody cares.
Stand on the corner with a sign - tip: wear a wig and sunglasses so no one recognizes you.
Many including greedy Management side gigs and consider State Farm their part time job. East money
Paranoid? Really? I call his/her remark wise and truthful.
More bad advice from the paranoid id--t association,
Tell no one of your private life at SF. They will use it against you.
They will not fire you. The lay low advice is horrible. I am doing a side gig with the full disclosure on code of conduct. Lot of paranoia and poor advice on this site.
why? The money here at State Farm is best in the industry
They will fire you. They don’t want word getting around SF employees need second jobs. Lay low.
As others have pointed out if the side gig is related to insurance that is a no. If not, no problem-just put it on your code of conduct. If for some reason it was still a conflict in HR’s perspective they will contact you. If you don’t place it on Code of conduct and they find out later they could terminate you. Being upfront is the safest play.
If you’re handling auto claims, working for a repair shop or tow yard wouldn’t be smart. No names, but what department you in and what’s the side hustle?
You just can’t work for another insurance company my guy. The conflict of interest is your issue for side jobs.
