I'm thinking about quitting but I'm worried that the grass might not always be as greener as it might seem at first.

Of the professionals that I know who left the last few years, I would say about 3/4 regretted it later. The ones who didn't usually had external reasons for leaving.
Yes. Probably quite a few who took the VSP. If the VSP people were still working( if that’s what you call WFH) they could be living the good life and still make big bucks. Talk about easy street. Not having to actually worry about your boss sneaking up on you. Rolling out of bed 2 minutes before the first video meeting in the morning. Being able to walk the dog or just sc--w off for the whole day. Starting happy hour at about 3 pm in the afternoon. What a life. You people who are pi---d off about going back to the office a few days a week really amaze us all because you are so spoiled. It would be great if oil prices would tank just to send the poor performers packing. But of course the company didn’t clean house when they should have a year and a half ago so why would we expect them to do it now. The people management aspects really need to change.
Yes.
Dr. Ray Irani regretted leaving OXY, although it wasn't his choice.
I believe he was quoted as saying "It was a pretty good gig."
I would look at new opportunities all the time if I were you. My regret about leaving Oxy was not leaving sooner. If you are contemplating leaving, position yourself to leave. A lot of good talent has already left, and it makes sense why.
Believe me, it can be worse. I came from NOV almost 5 years ago. That place was a circus. You think the leadership is bad here, you haven’t seen anything.
Currently in a similar mindset. Culture here is overall great, just feeling overworked and the raise/ promotion amount is not really anything.
Great advice to not look back. When you look back everything could have been done better. Then if everything could be done better you are always unhappy. How do I know this? Guess.
Why would a bigot leave the clan?
Oxy is a good company and there are worse ones and better ones out there.
Oxy was great for me personally and professionally but I have not regretted my decision to leave for a new opportunity but was very selective with positions and companies.
Change is what you make it, weigh pros and cons, make best decision for you and your family then don’t look back, only look forward.
Maybe you can get a sign on bonus and also be eligible for the next big VSP if you are lucky and they count your previous service time. Can you say jackpot! The people who stayed working at the company would be proud of you.
Maybe even a promotion when you come back.
The grass may not be greener, but at least is not dying.
Leave after the bonus, you can always come back.
Oxy takes pride on bringing people back, check the page for returning professionals.
You may even get a raise coming back.
Let’s see how my health is 10 years from know.
I'll let you know at the end of next month :)
It would help to know that others are not regretting a similar decision.
