If that is all you need. then everyone already has it.
At the beginning of all this HR sent out an email stating Enhanced severance vs Normal severance and why the "Enhanced Severance" was such a good deal.
Since that email went to you, that can be qualified that the Normal severance was the policy for you.

Now, they may have not thought out the legal implications of that email. but they can/will certainly be sued if they offer anything less than that normal severance.

We will learn the truth about severance in a few days but if there's none or if it's reduced then expect a mass exodus of the best people. Some will quit before this new mystery year end bonus and some after. Probably the only way to keep them would be stock awards because then they would want to stick around for the stock to vest and its price to increase.

Severance pay that is promised in a written policy or other form of agreement is an enforceable part of the wage agreement under the Texas Payday Law. Under § 821.25(b) of the Texas Payday Law rules, severance pay is additional pay for an employee's past work that is given at the end of the employee's employment, and is usually, but not always, based upon a set formula such as length of prior service. It is a payment that the employer has somehow previously obligated itself to give, either orally or in writing. Only a written severance pay obligation is enforceable under the Texas Payday Law.

Does anybody have it in written?

HR would not answer specifics about severence when asked in a meeting. Only information given is that the details of severence are situational and will be communicated to those getting it. It will be paid after seperation date+ 1 pay period.

Whether anyone specifically heard it or not, Corona will be a huge payday for senior executives across all industries.
They will have granted or backdated themselves call options at the low for the year.

I heard the executive team is giving them selves a big pat on the back with huge bonus at the end of the year... talk about corrupted board. These guys had jobs and got paid while you sat home with no pay... how dare they give the executive team bonus!!! I'm glad I took buyout and now work in the banking industry.

Wait! what? There will be no severance?!?

That would be a really bad idea. The only think currently preventing the superstars from quitting is the severance and unvested stock they forfeit. Right now that stock looks pretty worthless. If there's no severance then they have no reason to stay other than loyalty, and it's difficult to be loyal through actions like these. People will do what's best for their families and the best people will be gone.

As per comm, there will be no serverance this time. This goes as far as local labor law allows for.

Well, if you are not asked to return within next few weeks... that could be an implicit indication.

Sooooooooo will it be that we'll find out about being laid-off before the furlough ends?

I'll give up my spot for an enhanced sev

Some people that I know that received a bad rating DPM were workers that went above and beyond daily and just p-ss-d off the Manager. So that is pretty unfair if they go by some of those ratings, but I don't expect anything less from them.

"sudo cat fat > /dev/null "

Maybe you had slackers on your team, but IME the teams I was a part of had zero slackers (actually, all high performing and motivated) and management did the "right thing" and rotated mandatory sub-par reviews amongst the the team annually just to deal with the BS "fairly".

sudo $RANDOM > /dev/null

is more like it.

Helluva way to run a business. IMHO.

i doubt thats the way it will work. You'll see whole teams moved out. Whole orgs moved out.
trimming maybe done at the rating level, but 800 people isnt trimming. Also a lot of the PS and Un's took the sev package (they knew they were on the way out and it was a good exit for them).

but then again who knows. not like they are asking me.

This is exactly what DPMs are for. When you need to do RIF, you start with slackers...

Rate a whole team as highly successful??? I could never rate one person out of 7 as highly successful without having the VP standing over me while he has me lower it. Rating someone highly successful is only reserved for use by executive leaders.

As for the lower ratings, ratings can be lowered at any time. Usually so they can avoid giving them vcp.

Stupid DPM’s. Did you know that a manager can’t rate his/her whole team as highly successful, even if they were?
Also, can’t they change the severance terms? Like cap it at 16 weeks, or something?

“ Those "may" be the ones laid off but if no one got a bad rating then it's a toss up on who gets hit - could be due to performance or just being in a project that is being shut down...”

  • or wrong country.

800 plus people is not trimming around the edges.

Does anyone know if HR pushed in giving "Unsuccessful" or "Partially Successful" in 2019 Performance reviews? Those "may" be the ones laid off but if no one got a bad rating then it's a toss up on who gets hit - could be due to performance or just being in a project that is being shut down...

This isnt the full picture. This is the picture as of this second.
Downsizing is all this management team knows. There will continue to be downsizing as long as Sean and his team are at Sabre. It's all the guy knows how to do. Take care of yourself and your family out there and quit waiting on Sabre.

Employees to be terminated missed window on enhanced severance.
If they get the actual normal severance that will be a huge win as opposed to the 2002 story below.

Those who got the enhanced severance package are gone now. They are not counted towards the furlough users

@Furloughed Employee RE: asking for volunteers. That ship sailed already. There won’t be enhanced severance or anything like that this time. People had their chance to raise their hands, at least in the U.S. anyway.

800- Sad news but indeed better than anyone could expected under this crazy cirumstances. I liked the clarity of the message and the fact that the video was sent to furloughed employees too. At least one thing we know for sure now-furloughs will be ended and all the remaining uncertainity should end next couple of weeks. And then a new uncertainity will begin for those who stay and start rebuilding rebuilding this company:) All the best to you guys , wherever we will be in July.

Definitely better than anyone could have hoped.
I would view the “approximately 800” as a lower bound, not plus or minus.
800 / number furloughed means furloughed people still have significant chance of getting laid off.

So will invest on NDC, Hotels, Google migration and try to scam LCCs into giving us money??? is that the plan? for reals????

Hope they ask for volunteers with an enhanced severance package instead of simply laying off 800 and not paying for accrued PTO, medical or extended severance. We can only hope :(

Hope these 800 are not concentrated in the US. Though we all know that's a fool's errand.

Heh. Better than I thought, but still sad.
I wonder if they will share in public the layoff distribution between sites...
