Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Will Sears & Kmart be around to see 2024?

Will they? We're halfway through 2023 so it's almost time for the retail stores to prepare for seasonal hiring for the seasonal merchandice.

Anyone know if Kmart is hiring? I want to work there. I will do a good job.

Unfortunately they will close entirely. Everything must go

People keep asking this. At the very least, Sears.com will likely be around for 100 Years. I mean, it doesn't cost much to maintain a nominal, online domain name.

Also Guam Kmart is extremely Profitable, so that will aldo be there likely forever.

I will be very disappointed if Sears doesn't mount a national comeback by end of year

I think the last Sears will close sometime in 2029. Same with Kmart.

A better question is if the withering-on-the-vine "Sears Layoffs" message board will be here in 2024. This message board has long since failed to provide any worthwhile information regarding the goings on at Sears/Transformco. This is my last posting here. To the concerned and curious, I'd advise that you follow Sears Holdings/Transformco/Kenmore Brands on Linkedin if you want to hear news regarding the company in its reduced form. If there are any significant news items regarding the Hoffman complex or the fate of the company, regular news media will pick that up. Otherwise, it seems that Sears has again defied the odds: the company has outlived another platform prognosticating its demise. RIP Sears Layoffs 2023.

@2cdj+1nrsc9Tt No, I think you're absolutely right. The "rate" of closings has slowed down considerably. I think, all the "low hanging fruit", of easy closings have been completed. The small-formats, hometowns, etc., are all gone. So there's not much more fat to trim.

Now, he runs into lease situations, which, might in some cases, preclude him from closing the location, perhaps because of some clause where he is required to keep (a nominal) operating store open. An example of this is Miami Kmart, which is walkable to a Targy & Wally, and by all other accounts, would have long since closed, except for the fact, that they have some odd lease requirement necessitating him keeping it open.

They downsized it, basically into the old garden center, but for whatever reason, it remains open. So I'm not Saying there won't be any more closings, but if we do get any lists, they'll be of the "1-off", "drib-drab" variety unfortunately. As much as I want these stores gone, it looks like we will be stuck with some of them for a while.

And everything I wrote above, doesn't even factor in the Profitable locations, such as Guam Kmart, PR Sears, etc., which he will likely never close, because they are basically Money-printing machines. As you mentioned below, we might eventually end up with Guam, PR, and at least some of the USVI locations (as well as maybe 1 or 2 in the mainland) being all that's left of the company. After all, Blockbuster video still survives with 1 store.

To be honest I think yes they'll still be around. Just barely but still hanging on by a thread. And before I get downvoted into oblivion, just pay attention to the fact that store closings have dwindled down to just a one-off closing here or there. So unless the last little bit gets shut down in one fell swoop, I think (as crazy ad this sounds), we might actually get down to something like 3 Sears 2 Kmarts left, etc.

The TROLL wants to bicker because he thinks he feels better about himself by doing that.

I do not think they will see 2024. They barely have enough vision as it is.

@1mhf+1nrsc9Tt Call the number for the store you want to apply to, TROLL. Why are you asking obvious questions, TROLL?

You can count the remaining Kmarts on your 2 hands, TROLL. Look up their phone numbers on Google, TROLL.
