Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

I hate my job

And I hate this place even more. That's all I wanted to share.

I'm not defending Medtronic's current leadership, but the working conditions at other companies are a lot worse.

@2b7 Short term thinking around here is so normal. Most just want to have meetings, push documents, blame contractors and pat themselves on the back for being so awesome. It is not a good place to work if you a motivated individual.

@2b7 yeah, if I was your manager I’d have spiked that proposal prior to it getting escalated to my manager.

‘as new software was faster and less buggy’

No, it wouldn’t. You clearly have no experience doing production software in a regulated industry.

I was an engineer on a production line. We had a bunch of computers on the line that were still running XP. Yes, XP. Can you say SECURITY RISK? Also, old software that was buggy and needed updating. I was chomping at the bit to upgrade to Win 10 and write new software. Nope, I was blocked by my manager's manager. See, upgrading the production line would take a line down and temporarily hurt production numbers. Never mind that the payback would be a couple of months, as new software was faster and less buggy. Too bad, they said. If we don't make our numbers, our quarterly bonus will be reduced... These guys were great long-term thinkers. Needless to say, I quit soon after. Talk about the wind being let out of your sails.

@10p Completely agree, I was there for 14 years, got my medallion from Earl personally before he passed and LOVED it. Mission driven - Now a joke since GE (Omar and Geoff) took over. I left voluntarily and never been happier. The only reason I even look at this site is that I thought I would retire from MDT and feel sad about the company it's become. It's a shame....

Live in the shadows and disappear into the bureaucracy. No one will notice you coasting thru life cashing checks. Poor management results in poor workers. Play the game they created and you will be fine. GLTA

D-mb post. This has nothing to do with layoffs, and doesn't even have anything to do with MDT, necessarily... people everywhere hate their jobs. Leave. You're only posting to try and get some kind of validation that Medtronic is the problem, and not you or your choices.

I hate my job too. I make up for I by doing as much personal stuff as I can on company time. That way I am able to give myself a pay raise by working less!

OP - I feel the same. I want to like my job again but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

@OP That is how I felt before I was mercifully let go.
