Most other companies fight tooth and nail to keep their top talent and it seems that Oxy can't wait to see them walk out the door. I'm not talking about cuts, I'm talking about people jumping ship to join our competitors. How is this in any way, shape, or form good for our future?

Pay is not high enough. Man are you spoiled.
Pay is not high enough to be honest. I would love to jump to a higher paying competitor knowing they should have similar benefits.
But at least they are real engineers. It is not all about money.
What do you think those real engineers flying the helicopter on Mars make per year? Probably not even as much as a college hire in our industry.
All of Oxys top talent left a long time ago when the company pretended to have ethics and integrity.
Give me a break! Some fool actually used the word technology to describe drilling holes for dead dinosaurs! Using pumps, fluids and drills to make holes sideways, I mean frack, is technology? You people realize this is 2021 and real technologists and engineers are flying a helicopter on Mars?
Pump out dead dinosaurs? Oh my, someone needs an basic education in petroleum systems so they can at least sound intelligent when casting childish aspersions on the industry responsible for powering our civilization.
You obviously are in the wrong business unit at Oxy. Most units use technology to improve recovery beyond just drilling the well and letting it produce. Now unconventional may fall into the category you are thing about. But even in unconventional there is high tech that goes into selecting the well location and designing the completion.
Talent is a word used when someone does something extraordinary and amazing! Working for a company that drills holes in the ground to pump out dead dinosaurs is not amazing!
How long have you been at Oxy?
I haven’t seen much “top talent” at OXY. I know most of the millennials think they are “top talent”... but I beg to differ.
Getting rid of older employees 55–60 plus to save on employer provided health insurance. But enormous talent lost in the process.
A company in Oxy's financial shape is always prone to losing top talent or hi–pots as these individuals believe their growth is limited. As another poster mentioned its not always about money. Add into the mix that o&g is not the trendiest of career paths now. Its an easy way for other hot companies to target top tier candidates.
What should they do? If someone wants to leave it’s best that they leave. In today’s world they can be replaced in about 10 minutes.
The VSP program was one example of enticing top talent out the door. It wasn’t forced but it sure was encouraged.
Provide some proof that Oxy gets rid of its top talent? Who? When? What are you even talking about?
If a person goes to the trouble of finding another job then there is a reason they were looking. In my experience it is best for both the person and the company to move on once that takes place. If it is just about money the employee could address that without moving, but usually it is not just about money. It is usually something deeper than just what is on the surface.
