Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

MD here, here's the sad truth about Schwab in 2024 and beyond

I can tell you that the plan is to deny all of the full-time WTH employees in May when they are forced to reapply.

Schwab doesn't care one bit about employee work life balance or their happiness or even their engagement. The only thing that matters right now is that these Executive council members, almost all of them retiring within 3-7 years, build up their stock options and rewards as much as they can before they leave. If you believe the BS about culture and engagement and teamwork you haven't been paying attention to what this place has turned into.

I'm simply posting this because I know most employees at Schwab are overworked and stressed, yet hopeful that something just magically happens soon to fix the mess that Walt has created. Unfortunately it's not happening. If you have the chance to leave this toxic environment for another opportunity with better leadership please do it while you have the opportunity

Personally I feel like I have failed my organization and so many people that I care about

At Schwab some recist Sc-mbag managers always do politics as per color of employee, they offer help with kindness, but after sometimes giving you a memo that you need help for to do your job and try to prove you stupid and d-mb.

You can post team name here.
Tools team is famous for this, is there any other team also there?

It's a viscious and stressful environment to worked in schwab. Some people were always in one or another meetings, only end guys are working hard and working extra hours. As they have so many unneccessary management hurdles, so each and every department head try to prove their presence and importance, so they throw meetings here and there and as lower level employee tou must have to satisfy ego of that sc-mbag. So many things............

I got laid off after 28 years in a branch office. Three weeks after I was let go, there was an open position posted on about Schwab for my job. They just wanted to save $50, 000 a year. At the same time, they moved a branch persons job to Austin and didn’t offer to transfer this employee. They said, she would have to re-apply for the job she had been doing for 25 years.

Why May 2025 and not the next round in December?

Highly doubt all non medical WFH requests will be denied. That’s thousands of employees- it would cause operational chaos.

Oh yea! Worked there for 20 years. Almost got fired for trying to take a well
deserved vacation to the beach with my
14 year old daughter. My complaint made it up to senior management due my diatribe with a co-worker that was overheard by a sh-----d manager that wanted me fired. After tons of stress due to a bunch of a--holes determining my future, vacation approved a few days prior to allotted time. Not much time to make reservation, so ended up in a sh---y motel in Oceanside. This kind of problem occurred with multiple co-workers.

This firm cannot even manage its balance sheet, though it thinks it can advise managing client assets.

@1tfo+1r7wMeME employees denied an exception will not be given severance. Employees who moved very far from the office or were hired remote and denied the first exception were told to figure it out, if you can’t report to work when you’re supposed to then you will be fired. Everyone I know who moved/hired remote and were denied the first exception got new jobs and resigned.

If a second exception is denied, would those people be offered a severance, be forced to quit, or would it be considered firing?

STS has always been allowed 2 WFH days (pre-pandemic), no way will there be 5 day RTO.

Unfortunately. Medical accommodation has to be related to your own medical issue. It can not be for a family member.

Could you or anyone else elaborate on the process of getting an exception for living with someone who's immunocompromised? That's my situation right now but I've been going in, I don't have access to their medical chart so I'm not sure what I can tell HR

Go to the Schweb and access the process for your medical exception. There you will find the process that you use for others in the household. Their physician and documentation will be needed, in addition to showing that they live with you. Submit the paperwork and take it from there. I strongly recommend that you consult with their physician before starting the process to ensure that they will fill it out and that the claim is solid. Good luck.

There is no clause in my agreement about changing work location.

There is. Both as a function of at-will employment and the language that your position and its characteristics can change at any time for any reason.

You don’t have an employment contract.

That's funny.. Amazon is a great example where they already told remote workers to move to a location or be laid off. I personally know a few that we're impacted as they couldnt move.

Previous post is a little too arrogant to think they have a legal case on this.. su-k it up, the company can let you go as they want

I accepted my offer for FT Telecommute. Schwab hired me knowing I am hours away from an office. There is no clause in my agreement about changing work location. I will sue if they tell me I must report to an office. Bring it on.

Must be nice to be employed at one place for 20+ years with the confidence to know you’ll be there another 3-7 years while arbitrarily laying off other good people who’s hard work helped your career by making you look good. Gotta love it!

I interviewed with a DS MD initials are AE … and during the interview they mentioned that I would have to get creative to make things work. I a not kidding … the suggestion was to ask employees to work an extra hour for 3 days a week. WTF is wrong at SCHWAB. I worked there before years ago … and this particular interview was the most the only interview I’ve ever wanted to hand up on the person. This person was rude, condescending, and entitled. If there was ever positive attrition, it would be this person. What a cig of bunt.

Good luck all! Stay away from the Witch, capital B.

Schwab needs more leaders to be vocal in meetings about the culture that exists now, not posting on a website
Walt destroyed this company but silence from middle management didn't help

What should we do? Most meetings only allow filtered and vetted questions. Our managers are in the same boat. We've noted talent leaving. We've reported that morale is low. We documented overwork with data. Answers? That it is layoffs and RTO and bonuses and nothing need change.

There are a number of employees who are remote that I cannot see will be forced to come in when they don't live near a service center, but then again they are in the pick me group and will likely relocate to keep their job. What about the folks in Chicago, etc. who still don't have an office to go into? Or are you saying just those that received an exception? Maybe we all catch the blue flu ... should we make sure to do all 4 of our WFH weeks before then?

I second the board being full of miserable people now. The useful information provided now is almost nonexistent. Without specifics it’s just bitterness.

I heard this board is full of incels who like nothing more than to spread misery. Give facts. Not feelings and I heards. It’s an anonymous board so don’t be scared to share IF you have REAL information.

Have been hearing similar for some time and, unfortunately, it makes sense.

Strongly recommend anyone on WFH get a medical (physical or mental) exception immediately. HR is limited in how they can respond; it places you in a protected class and they aren't doctors.

The easy one is if you have a compromised immune system. Other justifications can include stress, anxiety or living with someone with a medical condition that incorporates risk immune risk.

The negative is that HIPAA and other privacy protections do not apply. You will have to disclose things you likely don't want to.

The RTO six month renewals and arbitrary percentages should have struck everyone as suspect. The lack of specific criteria for exceptions was disingenuous.

This is bullsh-t. They will still have the same %s at prior. But this cycle will include information on if you actually met your expectation or not. Expect coaching memos if you don’t have an exception and not even close to badging in enough.

I wish more MDs would work together about being vocal about the madness you are having to deal with. I don't know one engineering team that isn't stressed or just flat out just given up

Employees have no voice, but I feel like middle management should demand changes
