Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Why are there so many inflated egos among managers here?

It doesn’t matter how hard you work as long as you manage to feed your manager’s inflated ego. However, since I’m not a person who wants to play games like that, my manager will always find some objection to my work. On the other hand, I really need my job so I'm in a very tough position here.

@1znh+1gAcL7tt Unfortunately, some of the managers you mentioned come to U.S. site and use the same way to threaten employees, they are afraid of citizens or local people to charge them so the bully all the Asians and immigration employees.

I became a manager because there was no growth in my role at the time. I moved to a lateral technical role as soon as it opened up

I think the vast majority of the managers are great people. On personal level great upstanding people, but at GF it’s the system that sucks very badly. They are working with a terrible inside of a well know industry wide horrendous system and culture and therefore it makes them terrible as well.

Look GF sucks. It’s toxic it’s backwards I think most know it but turn a blind eye… it’s last chance U for a lot of the employees

wow, my experience is completely different from most here

I've only had one absolutely terrible manager at GF, and that was because my actual manager was on parental leave.

The bad one was the definition of the peter principle. They voluntarily left GF, thankfully

Yea it’s be stated on a few threads recently, but the rating system is 100% fake. No rhyme or reason too it.

Personally after years of being confused by it and finally seeing the pattern I spoke with higher ups I al very friendly with about it. They all confirmed it is junk.

Eventually my mgr let it slip that it’s artificially used when needed to justify a promotion.

The promotions themselves are not merit based. It’s all based on length of time with company and team.

Yea mgrs at gf are liars, but the system and facade they put around it force them to be liars. Very very weird and toxic.

Oh so many people in my group left because of the following:

  1. Manager said she won’t sponsor green card application for several employees and screwed them so bad and forced them to leave GF which was good for them
  2. When the manager received bad rating she had 1:1 with everyone to isolate who it might be and after finding out who it was refused to provide end of year rating forcing the person to leave

Oh wow, maybe I shall add on.

I just realized getting a high rating of 3 has nothing to do with promotion or increment. Back in 2019, all the engineers who got promoted had a rating of 2 while those getting 3 were not promoted. I was the only one who got a rating of 3 and was promoted.

You would have thought that my increment would be the highest either in terms of percentage or absolute. You are globalfc0kingfoundries wrong! My increment was lower than a few of those who were not promoted nor got a rating of 3. Last year, my boss told me an AIP of 105% is the highest ever she had given before I found out 105% was the lowest in the department 2 days later!

Lost hope on anything coming out of GF management. You know when someone lies, i.e. when GF management talks.

Speak to HR, 😂😂😂😂😂, HR is completely useless as a source to help employees. If you feel wronged, contact the ethics hotline, it's completely anonymous (,outside firm) and it works. Contacting HR is a 100% waste of your time.

I was so appalled by the behavior and moreover I was leaving the group and talking to HR adjust did not cross my mind so I just did some quick random things. But I wish I would have.

Did you feedback to HR? This is really not good and HR has to step in to avoid any potential litigations by employees. I can't believe GF can allow this kind of modern slavery to happen when the HR is preaching diversity and Globalwomen like the company is built on these values.

In the Singapore fab, many of us are from Malaysia due to the location near the checkpoint.

It is common that the managers verbally "threaten" to send us back (if you don't hold permanent residence) or belittle us by saying it is not easy to earn Singapore dollar (the exchange rate of Singapore dollar to Malaysian ringgit is 3.1X to 1). The irony is most of them are Malaysians or ex-Malaysians who converted to Singaporeans. The industrial engineering department has a few of those managers from what I know.

At one point my manager was giving some busywork with no real goal in mind and when I declined he threatened me to escalate and give me a bad rating.

Oh there is a lot of favoritism one of this CD I heard her speak at one of the conferences and at meetings and I kept thinking how is this even possible. Then in GSC there is AA who constantly keeps making changes and does not ever want to work together with sales. IF the favorite of TC who keeps jumping around and most recently moved to Dresden and she is one of the classic who can play the game. JP thinks he is the CTO and opportunist with whom if you discuss ideas it has to be done by himself or some member of his group. So yes there is a huge toxic environment.

Yea same here. Really bad the higher you go up. They walk around with such arrogance and talk to others with such disdain. I often find myself thinking, “man they need to take it down a notch.” They try to cultivate an environment and relationships of fear. It’s really weird if you step back and take a look at it. Very counter productive. But again a lot of these managers and leaders never were trained or educated on how to properly manage people and teams. They all have been managers at same company (one form or another) and never seen or been exposed to real manager tactics and techniques. It’s a very toxic environment that feeds and sustains itself (with cronies and brown nosers joking for promotion) Go work anywhere else and I promise it’s nothing like Globalfoundries inbred mutant pgymy cesspool of management.

I sometimes laugh at some of them and their antics thinking “relax you are a manager at Globalfoundries, it’s like being the smartest kid with down syndrome”

@xdv+1gAcL7tt

Yes it’s very egregious in my area. The favorite of my 2nd line keeps getting promoted and moved up and around. She gets all the opportunities while the other 20 so of us are sitting there looking at each other thinking why doesn’t anyone else ever get a shot at this opportunities. A few are more then deserving but get passed over for the favorite over and over again

Thank you @Yupp, that is the most accurate description of GF I've come across. Global truly is "a graveyard for anyone with good intentions". Well done and good luck.

Every manager in this company I know of was put in their position from friends either above or adjacent to them. I've been working here going on 8 years now. I know of not one manager that got their position through sheer hardwork and dedication to this job.

Most are egotistical, self-serving children that have had most things handed to them. And the ones that aren't and haven't, figured out how to play the game at this company.

You either kiss a-s and make friends or waste your life and career growth bashing your head into a wall.

Management of all levels at GF is a facade that sells its lies to itself in a perpetual circle jerk of nonsense. Understand this and make adjustments to better your situation or get left behind. There is not and never will be anyone that comes into power here that has your interests in mind and if they say they do, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Globalfoundries is the stepping stone for good engineers, techs and managers. A playground for sycophants with delusions of grandeur and a lust for power and a graveyard for anyone with good intentions.
