@4xoi+1n systemic back to integration where considerations included the layoff of additional engineers over layers of management to preserve political power

Meta, Twitter, AWS etc are laying-off layers of managers and directors to make things more efficient. WD is doing the exact opposite. As expected. I guess we can call it "the year of inefficiency"

Yeah… too many layer of management!!! I see this 3 years ago when 3 big companies are combined… waste so much money!!! They layoff the many technicals and engineers before the manager and above… resulting many unused Directors and vp above!!!!

In FPE it’s embarrassing to count the number of Directors and Sr Directors running a program. Nowhere else in the industry would this be allowed. Many are just Directors by title but they don’t contribute at that level. A Director should be more focused on leading multiple teams and driving the vision of those teams to align with the business unit. Instead, they act like team leads of a team of 6 or 7. This is the SanDisk way, this is the way you sink a ship.

@1yzu and multiple levels of VP, with VPs reporting to VPs

Reporting chain: Engineer > Manager > Senior Manager > Director > Director > Senior Director > Senior Director > VP...

Some operations teams have 14 levels or more... WD is striving to operate like the government. The only catch is they can't print money to plug the holes in their leaky ship.

Also, the lawyers at WD are hands down mo--ns.

I’m from the FPE side. Things look really ugly. These SanDisk leaders are good at three things, cancelling programs, self-portions and giving themselves bonuses as they rotate assignments calling it efficiency alignment. We are loosing a lot of good technical talent and these executives won’t admit it’s their fault as no one wants to work for them.

@1esu..the problem is every tom, di-k and co-k is a director here. this place has more directors than our competitors have engineers

@1esu+ These leaders fail us year after year, yet survive layoff after layoff - no accountability in system built on cronyism, favoritism, and likability, not results.

The SanDisk executives, Directors and above try to micromanage the technical aspects but don’t have any business sense. At that level you should worry more about making sound business decisions instead of trying to review someone’s 10 line code change. They all need to be replaced. SMH

8/16 is the next round of RIF. But I sincerely hope it could be canceled. I agree with other post saying that if you do have the 'capability', please go find another place ASAP.

Ahh so these SanDisk executives screwed SanDisk, WD, Micron and soon will destroy Kioxia. That is quite some achievement

I expect there will be more cuts. Flash isn’t picking up. New leadership believes in building a product focusing in 1 OEM customer. It’s a disaster!! Samsung is eating our breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. We’re left to pick up the dirty crumbs. WD has cancelled si many programs due to poor leadership coming from the SanDisk executives. Yet, no one takes accountability. They just get moved around to other roles and remember legacy WD and HGST leadership left. It’s a SanDisk boys club designed to keep squeezing the company funds until they run out and believe it, funds are running out. You cannot sustain the size of this company with only selling client SSDs and HDDs.

True. If you are in CA and your base salary is less than 170k, you should be fine

Does anyone have any inside info on when the next round is? I heard the last round wasn’t even based on performance instead was targeted to reduce cost on removing higher paid positions where possible.

Take the package and chill out. There aren't very many opportunities out there anyways. The entire semiconductor industry in US has gone to dogs. If you are under 45, please re-skill and switch industry asap. If you are from the far-east, please leave this dump and move back to your country.
