Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

No layoffs at 680 Folsom (Macy's Technology) today

Looks like the person with the friend of a friend of a friend "who signed an NDA" was full of BS:

"First wave if lay offs is the end of the month on January 31 and will continue until March."

@OP+13hjmBjh - wait until Wednesday or Thursday. It's coming for sure! A day here, there doesn't really make a difference.

These layoffs were in plan for very long time. Macy's tech had certain targets they had to meet and the only way they could have done it was either by hiring more contract staff or more outsourcing. Trump admin's visa restrictions greatly hurt Macy's tech plan to reduce costs and improve quality of work. Who from CA would move to a GA job that pays half ? Rather than bringing more people in Macy's tech had made its mind to move its entire operation to GA and then to India.

This is probably the most most true comment ever posted (thank you: @1ywm+13hjmBjh)

"The geniuses at the top are blowing up the ONLY channel in the company that delivers growth"

Seriously.

I don't have an MBA, but WTF, Macy's?

I heard Relo from SF is to JC or NY depending on role. In the end I’d bet those are only offices left standing and all others eventually close down.

Consolidation, downsizing, expense reduction is the name of the game.

Thanks for the thoughtful update, @1ywm+13hjmBjh. Do you know if the relocation packages are for Lorain and/or Johns Creek, or somewhere else?

The severance package is a travesty. Several big companies in the Bay Area are hiring now though, so I wish everyone there a quick bounce-back.

Has there been any mention of Mason, Ohio?

The announcement will be Monday, SF office will close end of March. I don’t think this notice is act of kindness but requrement of CA Warn act. Those that stay on until the bitter end get 1 week of severance for every year and bonus. I guess “lucky” people have been given relocation packages. If you haven’t already been asked then you probly not on the list.

The geniuses at the top are blowing up the ONLY channel in the company that delivers growth. At same time opening some beauty store in Texas and getting Jessica Simpsen to give a concert at herald square. These are the best ideas they have folks. Macys is totally effed. We are lucky to get out now and to better companies with brighter future.

I’ve been hearing a lot of the same. Also, the rumor is around 60% outsourcing for full time tech jobs. We’re around mid 40s now. I heard the same timeframe for Lorain.

Wait for Tuesday. Several HR and MT leadership will be traveling to SF to break the news. Lorain will be closing in Q3, and jobs will be moved to ATL and outsourced.

Wonder if that means they started at Johns Creek or more likely Lorain? Both were going to have cuts, Lorain was rumored to be severe, to absorb any of the movement from 680 Folsom

The credit closure was posted on here last year. It happened as stated by the poster. This is how it was announced. Steven showed up & broke the news. Then vanished into the abyss. This was followed by another individual giving you more details on what to expect. You are also given links to the FAQs . I wish you all the best .

There was no need to be so specific about the January 31 date, but it's not a good sign that the CTO and Big HR will be at 680 Folsom on Monday.

Maybe later today or tomorrow. It’s still morning. Managers here have a habit of delaying a lot

So what, you don't think it'll happen?

I'm not the OP of that post, but I'm a friend of someone who signed the NDA. S/he said:

It will be done in three phases. Two weeks apart. Last phase is in March.

It's consistent with everything we've heard and read so far. So what if it's off by a few days.
