Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Too many of you are too comfortable at BBBY

You hate working there but you're too used to it and too scared to go and try out something new. I know, I've been there. But once I managed to push myself to leave my comfort zone, I was able to find a new job that's better in every possible way. I'm ten times happier than I was a year ago. Try it. Realistically, even if it's not the best new job, how much worse can it get?

This is not a Psychiatric Board. To the crying one..get help..please .many many people have jobs much more stressful than a retail job.. what if you worked in healthcare? The military!? Air traffic control? Coming bacj to this board is a big red flag

Yep. Getting laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me. Learned a trade, and got a career. There's no ladder to climb at BBB. Get out there, and try something new. Go to school, or even apply to the trades. They take people with no experience, and train them on the job. ANYTHING beats that place.

Wow! Why are there so many real hunts (change the h to a c) posting here to only criticize people's grammar and punctuation? Get a life and worry about yourself if you cannot muster any empathy for those who need an outlet to vent.

Not a fake post~
This is as real as you can get. Yes, I would cry before and after work. Constant stress from SM. Total confusion in the store as to no direction. Hiring human bodies just to take space and hrs not accountable for what their job title is. Constantly blaming teams for not doing their job but we are. Nobody to follow thru after teams leave. Total mess when you come in the next day. Why am I cleaning departments when there is someone coming in after my shift to take over ,don’t they do anything at all?
There are employees that just walk around the store doing nothing or they are hiding. There is no accountability. Constant call outs from the same people day in day out. Staff is at its all time low. Never have seen it this bad in all of my 15 years at BBB. Years ago- ( that’s my problem of thinking it’s still years ago) years ago BBB employees would be all helpful and SM working right beside you not against you. You had accountability on call outs and being late. Now anything goes nobody cares. Sure SM doesn’t because BBB is in such desperate time to hold on to those employees that do only 3 hrs a day. This is a playbook for failure.
Hiring employees that just go thru the motions of actual physical work but not doing any stocking, merchandising, floor help, Meanwhile all this gets pushed back to the employees that really do actual physical work- overload of work expected to be done in a 3 hr day

Miss Communication? Is she related to Miss Nebraska? If you are crying b4 or after work..seek counseling..really..you need it. Not being mean but that is strange. And yes I too think it is odd people leave yet come back and post. Maybe their posts are fake

I have 17 years working for BBB

They normally give 2 weeks for every year of service, up to max of 6 months.

Can anyone confirm if thats what the folks who got laid off in the warehouse received when they got laid off ?

Yes, the store I was with has seen many SM’s come and go.Not sure if that was a norm for SM’s to be jumping store to store in the past decade(7 to 8 SM’s). It was- still is- a sh-t show. Nobody knows what they are doing. Miss communication and no communication to BBB teams. Can’t say if it was all management or Corp possibly both. Lots of promises of things looking better in a couple of weeks but weeks go by and nothing is happening or done. They constantly pass the buck back to the BBB teams and point fingers. Never taking responsibility for the store as a whole. Micromanage with no direction. Tell you one thing and then reprimand after. Just tired of constant sh-t. Hiring bodies to take space in departments-that do nothing- no merchandising, no sense of direction.
With management not speaking up and giving direction to what to do. That in its self is doomed for failure. A good or great SM gets in to the thick of things and lends a hand, criticizes with direction and stands beside you when you need it the most.

Cry in the parking lot before and after work? Are you serious? What a sh-t show that store must be. Hope you like your new job:)

It is not "sad" to come here and post when there are so many of us that worked for this company for over a decade (or two) and still have a lot of friends and connections that work at BBB. Also, it is not "sadder". It would be properly phrased as "I don't know which is more sad,". But you obviously have a whole career path set at BBB so grammar is not so important.

Don't know what's sadder that too many are too comfortable at BBBY or the fact that you still come here posting after leaving the company. Time to let go and move on. #toxicexgf

Don't look for severance. They are broke!

I do not see them giving out anymore severance.

The severance is garbage, especially with the economy now and how little cash BBB has left. If you do get a severance it probably wouldn't even last you three weeks.

Recently left for a much better job, picked up my last pay and was questioned as to WHY did I choose to leave. Umm seriously you had to ask me Why??
The writing is on the wall. Things are not getting any better. There is no loyalty when BBB cuts hrs drastically to the point of no return. When another employer sees your potential and offers you a stable career which you would choose over BBB. For many years I have worked at BBB and watched things go downhill such as poor customer service, merchandising on the sales floor, miss communication from SM to the BBB team as well as other topics. BBB isn’t for me anymore, I’m very happy I have left. Less stress less frustrations I have to worry about. No more crying in the parking lot. Yes I have cried before work and after. Realization- I don’t have to live like this anymore. Good luck to the ones that are still there.
Time to break the circle and live a happier life

This is something I just don't understand. It is not a matter of if but when this company shuts its doors for good. This current quarter could really be the final nail in the coffin and I truly believe everyone here knows this but so many fail to accept it. It is a terrible feeling going to work for a company that can't get out of its own way and you never know if today is the day you are told you are being let go. Realistically for every employee at BBB this could be any day now going forward. It is a lot less stressful looking for another job when you do have some security while being employed. It is a totally different scenario looking for a job because you just lost one.
