Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

Remember this...

middle management is largely unchanged and integrated HGST/WD/SNDSK so why should anyone expect something more to come from what's ahead

as @uxa+1qirO5bv pointed out, likely little changes in part bc too many have been in the same role for too long, so keeping that role & power will influence what's ahead

WD's legal team is a bunch of a-s hats. No loss there.

@5bbz+1qirO5bv HDD would benefit from an overhaul too

@5bbz+1qirO5bv, my wishful thinking is part of the split process would involve investors demanding review on corporate governance and hopefully cut most of middle management. Commenting only on the SSD side, we only need these layers CEO, Exec VP, VP, Director, and Manager. Anything more than 6 layers from individual contributors to CEO is excessive.

Nothing to get excited about. Other than removing entire FW teams from certain locations, nothing really has changed. The FPU Leadership team does not have a long-term roadmap, they don’t have a vision, they don’t understand the mission or the industry. The architecture for the next Gen isn’t anything to brag about, we really don’t have a way to stay competitive regardless of what you hear from DG or any of the leaders. Our only way to continue to stay above water is to keep cutting operational costs. Think about the number of Directors and Director level people assigned to One program! Tell me this, if this were your own company would you keep it this way? Is this even sustainable? For how long? We don’t need Kh____m and the next 3 levels below him to ship what we are developing yet, they are still here and they will keep drawing a paycheck when their contribution is next to nothing. Anyone can create PPT charts and make guesses to the roadmap every few months. Time to cut deep into the Leadership team. We don’t need their help to figure out the next STI and pay increase cycles. If they really want to hear who needs to go, it’s them that they need to clear their offices and get out of the way. They had their chance and screwed us over plenty.

Offshoring support groups, swapping asian dynasty out for Indian dynasty, management chains 12 heads deep, and weak technology. Hmm, what can go wrong? We probably should have been more thoughtful before letting all that engineering talent slip through our fingers... especially on the development engineering teams.

@1yez+1qirO5bv, the FPE VP said during all hands after the last layoffs that the NCG focus in India will still be there. That's probably upper management's plan on cutting costs. They slowly transition everything to India. We'll see how it will impact the quality.

restoring benefits & hiring next year’s college grads costs, so best look for demand gains that support both

Nothing’s gonna change except for supply and demand. The reason our stock increased 68% year to date this year is the reason why our stock is going to increase next year.
