I bet those employees still with the company would welcome a union to protect their interests.

Unions destroy companies and lives. Unions defend the bottom feeders while chastising those that give 100%. Its all about having the most employees that pay dues. Fact. Worked in Union companies, they only want your money. You can assault a coworker and the union will defend the assailant to the teeth. They get the assailants job back while the other person recovers in the hospital. The Union leadership enjoys vacations , glorious retreats, offsite meetings daily paid by the union members. Those meetings rarely happen but guess what, your dues paid for it along with extravagant lunches and dinners. The Union leadership laughs at how good they have it while they tell everyone you cant survive without them. Those with a work ethic dont stay in unions long. They get tired of doing all the work while the sh!t bag parasites s— everyone dry.
Labor organization should be saved for a last resort, from my vantage point time to stop the corporate thuggery. There is persuasive power in Numbers. We all are being taken advantage of by our leaders on purpose. The don't give a $hit about employees, the overtime abuse, the intimidation, scare tactics are out of control. Grew up in a teamsters household - yes some bad results but overall positive outcomes regarding working conditions, pay and overtime compensation, benefits, retirement and more. Fighting a bully with a bully oddly seems the only way to get results. Sad situation for the current workforce to deal with such a dysfunctional organization when we all should be focused on serving our customers.
Agreed. I would like to see the correlation between those big mouths clamoring for unions and those on behavioral UNs. These people tend to be cancers on the team and playing the "muh worker's rights" when they are called out for their poor behavior and guideline breaking.
The same people asking for a union at Allstate are the same ones that cause drama and trouble in team huddles and bring about unneeded conflict and anxiety to their team members. Add me to the thumbs down list for a union at Allstate.
A big N-O to a union. They are worse than what Allstate brings.
Good job corporate trolls ! Keep dispelling unions. Be sure to keep posting negative outcomes about unions. Keep the ants marching toward the cheese. Don’t you see folks a union is really the only answer to stop this abuse who cares how much chaos is developed because the employees want to unionize —think of the reason why we want to unionize. we want a Union because we’ve been treated like dirt for decades take a look at how much corporate executives have made while the common man has suffered in this pandemic it’s obscene get a union make some phone calls somebody be a leader and get a union started.
One of the best ways to actually get employees siding with and being more united with a corrupt and dishonest company is to bring in an equally corrupt and dishonest union and actually be forced to pay them. Unions are bad news that I do not want to be a part of.
IMO the nightmares of bringing in a union and it being in place versus the headaches Allstate brings that are pretty much what most other companies bring is not worth upsetting the apple cart more. It would just create more hostilities and division between corporate and the employees. That is something at this point in my career I just don't need. It may be at the point with some people that moving on is the better option. But please don't make my time at Allstate more difficult to suit your own views and self serving wants.
I as well want no part of and would not acknowledge a union. A company like Allstate is no place for such a think. I have enough trouble dealing with my pig if a boss and his sh!! for brains division manager. The last thing I need is a Jimmy Hoffa wannabe stooge holding his grimy hand out giving false promises and hopes. I'd rather deal with Tommy W and company on my own terms.
A union wouldn't protect you from a layoff, what it would do is make the layoffs by seniority within each job, and you know what that gets you? You end up with the younger and newer guys laid off and the older longer tenured guys staying, and in his case that means he is working with a bunch of guys that physically can barely do the job.
That is what you get with a union, people who stay that only stay because they have longevity, they may or may not be the best workers, layoffs should be based off of competence to do the job, something Allstate also didn't do.
Not interested in a union at Allstate myself. My prior experiences with unions is what got me with Allstate in the first place. Sh$$ hit the fan at the company I worked for and the union left us all high and dry. We were all unjustly terminated and the union did zero. They sure enjoyed those dues though. I distrust unions as much if not more so that the trash running Allstate. I would rather deal with the snakes that sign my paycheck than an additional group of snakes that provide imaginary brass rings of protection and them run off when things get too real.
When I was a CSL I had to attend a 2 day seminar regarding how to recognize attempts at unionizing and ways to squash any attempt to do so. Even 15 years ago Allstate was underhanded in their dealings.
Post ID: @1ybx+18BUpAH0 : Unions don’t protect you from layoff.
Not true. A union does not provide protection, however it does provide a unified barrier against the “at will” blatant discriminatory practices, all to prevailing in today’s US corporate reality. My union has fought and found victory several times.
While I am not totally against a union there are a some things that concern me about participating in a union or trying to bring one in. Based on these I would not be interested in trying:
1) Those I personally know who are most for a union within Allstate are the last ones I would trust based on prior experiences with them.
2) The different areas of this company are too divided and in conflict with one another to unite. Too many areas think they are above others. The chiefs in each area would want to be in charge and just the company wise organizing of such an attempt would turn into a complete sh**show.
3) Even low level management are trained to sniff out such talk and attempts. The way Allstate uses sneaky tactics to fire employees there is no doubt that they would make all efforts to squash such a rebellion.
4) Good point by a prior poster that unions would not work the same or have the same effect in our industry as let's say the automotive or construction industry. Our industry regulations limit what unions can do compared to other industries.
Would a union be a good possible option? Maybe but a bigger mess would be made based on the toxicity and distrust we the employees have within ourselves for each other as a whole
My area as well would have to say no to unionizing. We can't afford any more taken out of our pay in dues and fees. And the last thing we need is to further raise the ire of these already vindictive and deranged corporate suits. They could make it pure Hell for us before a union is implemented and even after. While I can't speak for everyone in my area I know many who would take their chances with layoffs and voluntarily in the job market rather than get caught up in a union rap.
Collective bargaining needed, employee to employer. Abuse will only get worse if no one speaks out. Labor Standards, overtime violations out of control. Corporations using people and draining every ounce of blood using covid as an excuse. They will spit you out and start over with the next new hire " @ less pay"
Strength in Numbers
Employee organization is the only answer to stop corporate abuse not necessarily union but well thought out participation across the board with employees refusing and standing up against the current trends this company is moving towards. 50 to 60 + work weeks, voluntary weekends, constant fear of terminations or layoffs. Corporate America is taking advantage of labor during the pandemic because they can, no conscience, no care for humanity. These large corporations are making millions and billions on the backs of their workforce we should at least expect dignity and respect. United we stand Divided we fall.
Go ahead and puff your chests out about a union. That “answer” is thrown out every time this happens. Blah, blah, blah. Who is actually going to lead a legitimate organization of employees across departments. Not anyone on this site, that much is for sure. Stop it already.
As a current Allstate employee that fully agrees that there are a lot of shady and immoral practices and processes within our employment I would refuse and reject participation in a union. As someone that worked in another financial related unionized company it does not at all work as good and does not provide the protections and representation as it does manufacturing and other blue collar labor. In terms of banks and insurance companies there are so many state regulatory factors in place that you are pretty much paying fees and dues while getting very little out of it and at the same time drawing a wedge and creating an even more tense and fractured relationship between employee, leaders, and upper management. I can safely say that once presented you would be surprised how many would reject a union at Allstate. Almost all of my peers want no part of a union circus further muddying an already poor situation and environment. Thanks but no thanks.
Unions don’t protect you from layoff. My union electrician spouse is on his third layoff in 10 years. He’s been off since March this time.
