Thread regarding IBM layoffs

"According to a statement by the company IBM, to gain more in the competitive field, it needs to cut down its number of employees."

Chasing buzzwords/hype/memes: "IBM has a program that trains its workers to expand new skills in AI and cybersecurity." https://www.inventiva.co.in/trends/139000-jobs-vanish-across-top-tech-companies-how-much-longer-can-tech-workers-survive-the-cutthroat-industry/

‘We Are Now On The Brink’ Of Civil War – Dalio

Ray Dalio is the founder of Bridgewater the world's biggest hedgefund. Things are breaking down. No one can do anything. This is not something that can be fixed by the uniparty. Things are spiraling out of control. 3 attempts to eliminate a candidate is just too much.

... and what is legacy SW automation?

Can you expand on that?

It has zero to do with nationalities and everything to do with costs. AK’s job 1 as CEO was to lower IBM’s costs and invest in Enterprise solutions and strategies before he exited stage right. He for the most part has accomplished that. First world employees have 3x the burden rate vs 2nd and third world employees, yet all three groups are just as productive! That’s why IBM has been replacing NA and Northern European employees with Indian employees at a 1-1 replacement ratio. The burden rate savings of 66 cents per dollar spent on employees drops right to the bottom line. Everyone says AI is the great cost saver, but to date outsourcing personnel on a 1-1 basis far outpaces AI as a 66 cents return is the gift that just keeps on giving. Will AI catch on? Yes it will, but not for the reason you think. AI will catch on because NA and Northern Europe are running out of personnel who can be outsourced. It’s a numbers game, and the CFO has run out of potential NA and Northern European targets. Who’s next in the bullseye? Most likely legacy SW automation. Why? Write it once sell it multiple times

OK... so, does that mean we are all (most) looking forward to see Rob Thomas take over the CEO role? He is damn white... will he favor the white folks?

@rbj

If you are replacing US employees with AI, then why do you need to hire more people in India ? It totally defeats the purpose of AI since the people you hire might be cheap but they still cost $$$ in salaries and benefits. IBM CEO and his Pipmunks know ZIP and it shows.

How is IBM is reducing the headcount? For every US position offshored to India, it hires more than 3 employees. One of the projects I was involved in, had 6 US based employees, the current team handling the same project in India has more than 30 employees.

IBM uses its profit to buy new companies for their profits, giving the illusion of growing profits. Of course this is how IBM ends up over 60 billion dollars in DEBT, but nobody pays attention to that, watch the profits that IBM is BUYING, Wall Street.
